if ddd is worthless, and not a real error, why would they slab it, and there are also articles about this, they call it design creep...just asking for general knowledge as any time someone has such a coin they are told on here they are worthless and common..so??
I agree @john65999 but I'm just trying to figure out the label . ?? What the heck is " Design Creep error" ?
Some consider it an error but really just a worn/overused die issue(even if rare)still just a nickel to me.
From this page: http://www.error-ref.com/design-creep/ It sounds like to me that "design creep" is (and now for) something completely different than die deterioration doubling, and was specific (in the US, at least) to one run of 2014 P Jefferson Nickels that were all discovered by one person. I don't work for ANACS but IMO that's why they would attribute it on the slab (if it was a mint error.)
That's just some funky error, John. Die deterioration doubling happens in the middle to late stages of use, and is just a bumpy, distorted die.
Per error-ref, design creep is a very specific form of die deterioration and the editors refer to it as rare. It is not the same as the die deterioration seen on numerous coins found in circulation Design Creep https://www.error-ref.com/design-creep/ Common, non value added deterioration https://www.error-ref.com/radial-flow-lines/ https://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-promoted-by-trails/ https://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/ https://www.error-ref.com/orange-peel-texture/
+1 on them being different. Here's some reading on it: http://www.error-ref.com/design-creep/ This does appear to be rare, and also limited to this year/mint for nickels.
Correct. It is an interesting issue. Incorrect. Read the articles I provided on the thread below to better educate yourself on the issue and premiums for it.
Are you sure you came across them? They appear to be exclusively found on the 2014-P Nickel. For the record, I once threw back a Henning Nickel out of ignorance. We all make mistakes
Good. I was going to show that reference. I'm looking for another article I read once to share. I found it. It is from CoinWeek written by @mikediamond Collectors Clearinghouse Design Creep (coinworld.com) This article was on CoinWorld How new error-variety categories get discovered (coinworld.com) And here is a CoinTalk thread design creep Jefferson nickel | Coin Talk @potty dollar 1878 Mint Error expert Mike Diamond has mentioned that they do have a premium
yes, i had one or two, the letters ran out to thye edge..like as if the nickel shrunk before stamping, lol i am kicking myself in the butt..it was from roll hunting..and last year searched about 800.00 in nickels
