The nymph Chalkis (3) cannot be beaten together with Julius Caesar (3). I also admire the silver coin (8) of young Hercules and Genio in RR style. That's a decently attractive and valuable selection of Top Ten. Again BRAVO indeed.
Lovely coins and great (hi)stories! Looks to me as if you had a good year... Thank you for showing them. That Frigo denarius is just lovely, the Phokis bull breathtaking. Wow!
I like the Phokis bull for a special (to me) reason. Do you have the Williams book? My similar coin (a century older than yours) came with the provenance ex. R. T. Williams collection. I have not seen the book but Pegasi claimed it was plated there (Williams 192.o 'this coin'). I got it in 2014 from Don Zauche who often had Pegasi coins that did not sell at auction but got listed in acsearch anyway. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1742664 2014 was a very strong year for me so it did not make the list then. It definitely would this year if I even have a list since I have only 8 coins so far and little in the way of prospects.
Hi Doug, an expressive and nicely executed bull, I do have the Williams book - it might be same dies - I find it hard to see the differences between dies with these coins - it is not the same coin. (Plate 7, Period 3, 460-446 BC)
Sulla, It was a great year for you ! I'm pretty much a style freak, so my select 3 coins in order are: #1, The Temple of Eryx denarius, #5 the lovely Faustina denarius, & #10 the handsome Syracuse Obol. The portrait of Venus on the Eryx denarius is breathtaking , & the temple scene is cleverly understated .
It is always fun to see where the wisdom of the crowd leads on the poll. The biggest surprise for me is Fonteius' Ship my #9 the groups #3 (so far). Thank you for the all the nice comments and excellent added coins. If I locate an extra set I'll definitely send them your way
Nice coin @Bing is that a Lyre behind Apollo's head? Lyre group is 354-346 BC in Williams. Congrats too on the 84,003 likes!
A list that doesn't disappoint, @Sulla80! All of them are either interesting historical types or just extremely eye appealing... and the majority of them both! I have to admit I'm especially jealous of your Frugi with the scorpion control mark. I've been looking for one of them for years. It just tickles me to think that the horseman is fleeing from a monstrous flying scorpion. My other favorites are the Phokis and the Temple of Eryx, but I'd honestly be happy if any of those on your list were in my own collection.
Lovely additions, and great top10. I voted for the ship, bull and temple of Eryx. I think it's time to start on my top 10 too. I'm done for this year when it comes to new acquistions. To be continued...
Six coins all still in contention for the popular vote with Temple of Eryx in the lead by a nose with Frugi and Phokis Bull neck and neck for second place.
Fantastic accusations @Sulla80! A great year. I really like your interesting and appealing top 1. I also voted for the artistic example of #4. At last I voted for #10, I like Hellenic period history and both the coins and the story is interesting.
