What do you guys think of the grade/value of this 1862 3 cent piece? I came across it in one of my many coin box m
yes it is like the shield behind that. It looked like an offset building. But I forgot I even had this . So Im not sure how would the shield show through like that?
here's a few that i tried to capture that better.I need to find a capsule for it anyway. It is a beauty though.
If I would be buying this specimen I be at vf money on it. $85 its nice not quite xf im at vf 20 It does have a nice clash of the obv.on the rev. Nice honest surfaces...and color. Circam look.
I guess that is a thing with these coins. I found this post but it is archived and I can't get to the photos. Anyone know if that's possible or know this member there that posted? Also I have been reading and looking at pictures and seems these die clash are pretty common in this type of coin because of poor oversight at that time.
You are correct. For whatever reason there are several nice examples of clashed 3¢ pieces out there. This is one I have.
Both die clashes and PIDT.- progressive indirect die transfer are known. The ghostly star on the reverse is PIDT
