2021 was yet another year that we had to deal with the Covid Pandemic....enough said on that subject!
But again it made it tough for a lot of collectors to be able to attend shows. Those of us whom are older ,and have some health issues. Tell us how you figured out a way to feed our hunger to obtain new specimen ,or find those coins needed to finish up a series. This thread isn't about the pandemic, but how you sought out those coins and dates...etc.
So post your finds with a little tid bit on how you were able to still enjoy your hobby, and get your coin fix's.
Talking to a lot of dealer friends I know first hand that they lost sales. Yet others did fairly well ....buy reinventing the wheel, and going to internet sales.
With the Whitman show opening in Baltimore, I'm thinking there will be fantastic inventories to pick over should you attend the show.

This particular specimen was more a want then a need. I had watched this over a few years in the inventory of one of my favorite dealers.
It's in an old Anacs soap bar slab, and now the plate coin for the odd variety #23. On the web site the definitive guide to Indian Head Cents. It graded at MS-64 and a really cool civil was year specimen. 1863_variety023_obv.jpg 1863_variety023_rev.jpg 1863_variety023_rev_crackmap.jpg

This very nice Valentinian I came from a lot of uncleaned ancients I bought in 2021. Cleaning ancients is about all I do in regard to adding coins.

Not going to the Fun Show last January really cut into my buying. Don't think I bought anything this year but had a blast getting my records up to date. I think I have everything in my system now. Found a few coins I forgot about.
Can't wait for the next show this January.

It would have to be this one. This gorgeous SLQ showed up in a thread from my favorite dealer and I was in awe of how well struck this lady was and I had to have her. And I am a confirmed blast white lover so this lady checked all the boxes for me. She still comes to work with me each day so I can stare at her while I work.

Some of my Best Buy’s have been coins that I needed, wanted or struck my fancy. One is in the mail on its way to me as I write this. A few others have been purchased up to 10 years ago but I just opened the package they were sent in this year. They are included as I’ve never seen them and forgot that I had them.

First is this waffled quarter that was cancelled at the mint.

I had to chuckle on the statement that "found a few coins I forgot about "
As I had two coins that went MIA and actually thought that they were stolen at a show.

My mind is quite sharp memory wise.... but these two coin fell behinde a drawer in a wooden case I have.... I cannot recall putting them in the chest. I can remember who I purchased from, as well what I paid... even what show....It just hit in my brain to pull the drawers out and see if they were there...sure enough they had fallen behinde.
Next Larry again I know what your saying about finding coins that have been in limbo for what ever reason...out of sight and mind.
And I cannot recall what triggered me to think about looking behinde the drawer...but it sure was tbe right thing to do. As the two coins were about $400 combined so that was a real relief finding them.

Here’s a few more as this has been a busy year for me. Both in buying and unpacking coins. I built this 20th Century Type Set in its entirety in about 2 months.

These two were also very significant pick ups for me.... I wanted to try and finish up my Mercury dime collection, as well my IHC. Well not complete but down to 1 on the Mercury dime collection and 5 on the IHC. Missing the 16 D but I did manage to fill the 1942/1 as well the 1909 s ihc. 20211031_102021.jpg 20211031_102039.jpg 20210926_100241.jpg 20210926_100321.jpg

But finding this specimen really made my year! The 1853 no arrows half dime.
Folks you just don't find these at a show...I got very lucky as they were minted on just two days ,and the second day strikes were melted shortly after the striking.. making this one of the hardest to find in any condition mintage 135,000 less the second day strikes... survival rate? Who knows ???

I've gotten a lot of very very nice coins this year, but two stand out as I've wanted both for years and years and years :D and if they're both Details coins, they are details i can live with :D
