Die cracks are not recognised by me as abnormal regardless of the opinion of whomever wrote that piece. With hundreds of coins being struck with die cracks by very worn dies, with every die at every mint worldwide, how can it be abnormal. Common sense tells you it is a common condition. If dies were retired before they had deteriorated to almost shattered condition you would not see anywhere near as many, then they would be abnormal.
This is purely my opinion and everyone must reach whatever description satisfies them.

Of course anyone can have an opinion. As to whomever wrote that piece, the contributors are listed. A minimum of 3 post on this forum, and are recognized in the field of errors. That is not to minimize your opinion. Had you not read this in the Red Book before this? I only ask, because I think many, more toward the majority, of users of the Red Book have not. I have asked this same question of many collectors, all ages and various years of experience. Maybe it is human nature to not read the back of the book appendix.

I am familiar with the appendix of the Red Book and other publications, also that cracks are accepted by many to be errors. However, IMO they are a result of financial pressure to strike as many planchets as possible before disintegrating, and are a die stage. I cannot see them in the same way as double strikes, capped die strikes, brockages etc. but as stated previously, it is my opinion on the subject, and I respect the opinions of others who have a different view.

My purpose is and was one only: supplying an answer to the question regarding the numismatic compendium that would set aside the opinion of Inspector43 as horse hockey.

Other than that, to each his own. I am not arguing with you or trying to prove you wrong or insinuate unfamiliarity on your part.
It is not important t me to "win".

If you don't like me, I could care less. What I don't like about you is that you don't have the guts to quote me as the person who believes that what was said, and that you agree with, is horsehockey.

So you use a subtle crack about me to make a statement about his making a subtle crack about you. You're a human-supremacist and you don't even realize it. For your information there are animals and even reptiles and insects on this forum who enjoy this hobby and have as much of a right to be here and be treated with dignity and respect as you or anybody else here. So quit your horsing around, or I'm going to be forced to report you. And BTW, it's "couldn't care less," not "could care less," try to make a note of it.

"I could care less!" may mean that you are nearly as low as the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench. Almost, but not quite.
