I love the portrait on this coin...would cost me about $45. The back is about 50% worn. I am on the fence about buying.
Thats what I am thinking...i really like the portrait and price is decent...just looking to get better "over all" looking coins moving forward.
My latest Diva Faustina with the same situation - reverse in worse shape. I won it, paying 30 EUR + fees. I do NOT regret it. I liked my coin and I think the price was decent (20 would have been better, but those were the days) Bottom line, as Victor Clark mentioned - if you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, skip it.
I agree with the above views but it's always nice to see both sides of a coin? Here's my Diva and a lifetime....
I don't really buy silver, but I feel like a Diva Faustina should cost less than $50. This Limes cost like $10 This lovely sestertius only cost $40
I bet the picture of the reverse is waaaaay over saturated and looks just like this... Yeah, the guy selling these modern repros on etsy at least admits that he's selling fakes. but whomever is trying to sell it to you, or whatever is going on here, is a crook:
Yeah, I had a hunch that this one was likely the fake type being sold (the picture looks familiar - @Ryro confirmed it), although at first glance the style and wear make it look pretty genuine. This coin is also being sold as a replica on EBay. Funny because the genuine coins go for about the same prices.
This particular issue is not particularly scarce, with 148 examples in the Reka Devnia hoard. Here's a genuine one. Faustina Sr, AD 138-140. Roman AR Denarius; 2.70g, 19mm, 6h. Rome, AD 145. Obv: DIVA FAVSTINA, draped bust right. Rev: AVGVSTA, Ceres, veiled, standing right, holding scepter and corn ears. Refs: RIC 358; BMCRE 389; Cohen 93; RCV 4581; Strack 475.
This 'fake' struck me as more interesting than the real things because it was made about the same time as the real ones. Actually it is not correct to call barbarous replicas 'fake' but that is the dilemma here so here is a Diva that followed me home. ex. AK collection (P06) Triton XX
