hello everyone. i am new to the board and had a question about submitting my currency to PMG. i was the one who posted about the 1934A Hawaii Star $5 bill and was going to send the note out tomorrow for grading. do you guys have any suggestions for packaging? i understand the significant value of this note and i want to make sure that it is protected to the fullest. thanks!!

    sure...

Get yourself some nice thick formboard or heavy presses cardboard and sandwich the note (note in a Mylar sleeve) between the 2 pieces. Tape it closed, no staples.

Place that into a padded mailing envelope and then put that into a nice white Photo mailing cardboard envelope "Letter size". Make sure to fill out the PMG paperwork (submission form) and take it to the Post Office.
Send it registered, and insured for 4K. High value shipments are hand delivered to each point along the destination route and must be signed for at each location as well as the delivery point.

Sit back and wait till its returned to you...then offer it to me..:D

I'm not a big fan of TPG's in general, but based on what graded notes I do have, I prefer PCGS as well. Their sleeves are clearer (PMG's seem to have a slight tint to them) and they let the note breath a little which I've heard is better for the paper. Either should be fine. Make sure you insure the note for a high value (what you expect it might be worth) if you mail it. For either TPG, you'll need to be a member to submit notes or you'll have to take them to a dealer who has a relationship with one or both of them. Depending on where you live, you could also take them to a show and take advantage of on-site grading. Both TPG's will be offering onsite grading this weekend at a show in Long Beach and for upcoming shows in Chicago and Baltimore next month.

    Good luck!

thanks for all the responses! i picked PMG simply because the submission process seemed a little easier and i was able to register online. It was also a little cheaper. PCGS required a phone call to register and i really did not have time during their business hours. I am new to all this and figured that both TPG would be close in their grading. i will post the note again and the results when it is returned.

I prefer PCGS as well but PMG is a close second. These are the only two TPG's to ever consider. The problem with PCGS (seems ongoing despite promises to improve) is that it may take up to 5 months to get it back unless you pay an expedited premium charge for a quicker turn.

As someone that does numerous submissions to PCGS i can tell you
That there Regular grading service which is $35 is pretty reliable
In the 10-15 day range, The Economy at $24 is around 30 days

Remember having notes like the one you have TPG will add value!
PCGS notes have the best resale spark over other TPG,S would
Say a little bit better then PMG and alot over any other!

So you might want to rethink your submission, Just a thought:mouth:
