Talk of doing a 2022 High-Relief coin...should have done, or still should do...a 2021 H-R to truly commemorate the 1921.
If the HR was going to happen it needed to be this year. Proofs next year is fine, an RP and enhanced the year after and kill it at that point in my opinion
Everyone's comments are accurate and I also believe Commemorative coins should ONLY be a single year issue, however, the US Mint has recognized this is a truly lucrative business and revenue stream so, they will keep what is working. Personally, in issuing Morgan and Peace dollars in 2022 (a second year), it diminishes and decreases the significance of the 2021 issues regardless of low population. Remember, the US Mint is government and government will beat a dead horse as they do not understand significance, commemorative or special. On the contrary, they ONLY know money, make money, give money and governance. Please give other opinions. Thank you.
Maybe it would be best to add another 100K+ of each of the 2021 Morgans, so that those that yelled the loudest, could make it available to those of us that were not able to get the FAUX 2021 Morgans, another 1000+ FAUX 2021 Peace coins. Prices will probably be raised to about $120+ for the FAUX 2021 Peace coins. edited
I heard they were planning making them a yearly thing but, I wasn't impressed with the ones that came out this year. I did get a CC and S mint Morgan but, the could have done a better job on them. When I got them I was like OK nice but, not what I expected. The Morgan dollars lacked the fine hair detail of the earlier Morgan's from 1878 to 1904.
I marked the calendar for Fall 2022 to get the new Proof coins. Remains to be seen if I will lose my shirt on the 2021 coins, that might change my plans for the new coins. I plan to cherry-pick 1 out of 3 coins from a few of the 2021 issues, keep those for myself / my younger son, sell the others, and use any profit to basically make my cost basis on any kept coins at $0.00 zero dollars. I will probably do the same for the 2022 proofs. But if this ends up just becoming a yearly series, I think I won't continue.
Read the operative law. It's explicitly NOT a commemorative. It's a NIFC Coin honoring the 1921 dollar.
Same. I'll just buy a proof or 2 lol. I only bought peace dollars anyway. And I won't buy any other year peace dollars.
Yea but you gotta admit, it's easier on the wallet to do it different years. And they do better because we have more money. And they aren't competing with themselves. I think they did it right. Because some people would have gotten proofs only. They even waited until into the sales to even announce this. I think it was well thought out.
Your photos make a convincing case. I'm pretty sure I like these better than I'll like the laser-pebbled cameo proofs next year.
I went ahead and got one of the ms70 first strike with centennial label. And then a couple more raw in the ogp. I haven't gotten a Morgan yet. If the CC ones were actually minted in Carson city I might be more interested...
I saw the Peace coins being sold on the TV yesterday. I don't know what the cost to get the coins ready to sell, but, I still think that $400-$500 a piece is a little steep. The only Peace coins that I have (5) were the ones that my father left to me. I don't think I'm going to be able to get the 2021 at that price. I blew all my allowance on the 2021 American Liberty Gold Coin ($2,720). My wife is going to kill me. Anybody else get one straight from the Mint?
A few have been selling them on the for sale forum here. Have you checked that? There's one guy selling them right now. I'm in no way associated with him and not advertising for him here. Just trying to help a fellow member out. I bought 3 Peace and 3 P Morgans from the mint. The P Morgans were perfect. Two of the Peace were perfect and one was really bad so it went back. So I ended up re-buying my third Peace from someone here since you can't get replacements from the mint. So far the sales figures show they've only sold 195,600 of the Peace. Not the 200k initially advertised.
