I was looking at the mints site and reading through the dollar coin direct ship program, for the 2010 sacs is says these are being sold for face, is that a typo? along with a 20? box limit? but the presidentials and 2001 sacs are 2? Are all of the dollar coins being sold for face and have free shipping? Could I say get 2 of he 2001 then 2 of each pres and 20 of the 2010 sacs? Any info on this would be much appreciated!
yes you read it right...face value with no shipping, only catch is you have to buy $250 at a time(10) rolls
I'm fine with the $250, i'm starting to like dollar coins more and more, in fact i received some in change at my local coin store yesterday which i found cool; but did i read the limits right too? And they really are selling the new 2010's with no premium?
yes they have been doing this program for a few years ,trying to get the dollar coins into circulation, the limits were imposed because last year people were buying the coins at face value with there credit cards to get frequent flier miles then turning the coins immediately into the bank...
Just a note of caution here for you old fellow. The direct ship program carries no guarantee as to which mint the coins you receive will come from. Also, the packaging of the coins is different than that of the "premium" rolls. Don't know if this matters to you or not but I thought I'd toss it in there anyway.....
Would a person have to pay state tax on a one for one exchange like that if said person lived in Wisconsin?
Direct ship of 2010 coins is at face value only if you buy in $250 increments. That's 10 rolls at a time. Great program actually. I like getting brand new dollar coins from the mint. So to answer the OP question, the short answer in no. You need to get 10 rolls at a shot, and only the ones they offer on the website. If you want to customize it the way you specified, you need to pay premiums and shipping.
Yup, free shipping on this option is no longer available. Guess the mint caught on that folks was just dumping 'em back in the bank instead of releasing them into circulation. Just the same, $4.95 is a relative bargain for shipping given the weight of 10 rolls.....
Oh wow.... the shipping costs on Direct Ship are news to me. I just got my 2010 dollars two weeks ago with no shipping costs. Just checked the Mint website and they say nothing about changing this policy. In fact, they still claim free shipping in the description. But when I clicked on the cart, the preliminary order added shipping costs. Can anyone give some clarification on this policy?
Darn it, a day late and $4.95 short. Actually, I almost bought a box 2 days ago. Would be kinda fun to have a big 'ol box of coins lying around. I pretty sure they are not going to change it back to free shipping. Darn it.
It's kind of like back in 2000 when I first started ordering stuff off of the mint web site. Back then they were offering free shipping on everything you ordered. The site was fairly new and I suppose they wanted to encourage folks to order in the so called "new" way (INTERNET). I thought to my self, "what a terrific deal'. No shipping charges. That all changed the following year.....
US Mint's web site still says this for the 2010 Native American coins and other direct ship coins...so go figure ??? was anything else on the order ??? The United States Mint pays for standard shipping and handling of domestic orders. Any special handling will be paid by the customer.
The fact that it's still published on their site would imply that they're still obligated to honor it. I'd give the folks at customer service a buzz....
....just got my 2010's AND 2001's and no shipping charges on either. they were both ordered with a week in between too. you have to hold your mouth just right i guess, when you order.
I don't think they changed anything. I think that you see $4.95 shipping (if you choose the cheapest shipping option) until you get to the last page, and then you see that the shipping charge disappears. That's what happened to me last month (when I ordered two boxes -- almost finished spending them), and that's what happened to me again yesterday (when I ordered another box).

I think that's absolutely right. So everybody, check your credit card or bank account to confirm what you were actually charged.
