Any ideas which country is dare I say famous for having the worst record of error coins ? The Uk has to be a front runner I love an error coin but I do always think every time I discover another from the UK that we must have a poor quality control system
I totally disagree and dislike your statement. It's a silly statement. Error coins are fabulous! They have always occured and always still happen. Why do people have such an issue for Mint Errors no matter where they come from? I say most likely the US Mints Mr. Ed Specializing in collecting mint errors since 1985
English coinage has a large quantity of varieties, doubled dies, RPM, OMM etc, but an error is a random happening, they can occur at any mint, in any country at any time
Its a interesting question, but a little vague. Simply put , The more coins made will increase the amount of error coins possibly made and released to the public. Poor quality control and regulated quality control are two different things. I believe the mints understand that letting a few error coins leave the mint is a good thing, and adds to the continuation of interest in Numismatic societies in there countries. I'm glad you enjoy error coin, I think they are very interesting to study.
It would be quite interesting to find out how folks from different country view and value error coins.
Paddyman I think you misunderstood me error coins push my buttons thats my obsession. Error coins are mistakes and although mistakes/errors are probably in the category of 1 of the most desrable coins for collectors at the end of the day no company or organisation wants to be known for making mistakes surely ? what I meant was which coin producer/mint in a postive way from a coin collectors perspective should be the best go to when searching for error coins. The irish comment was pureley for comedy value Im green & gold to the core and My irish roots afforded me a pass to laugh at how Gods own country has placed a thin red (green) line throughoout the globe. No offense intended
OK good answer so its maybe based upon numbers which makes sense (believe the mints understand that letting a few error coins leave the mint is a good thing, and adds to the continuation of interest in Numismatic societies) The idea of mints allowing a few error coins to circulate was what I hadnt considered and makes things interesting turning a negative into a positive ?- no publicity is bad publicity, and with a £20 charge per coin for the UK Royal mint to verify your coin makes commercial sense too
Canada seems to have some interest in error coins. Coins and Canada - Canadian coins price guide, value, errors and varieties
cheers loads of info there and in the 1st paragraph suggest the UK minted Canadas coins for a while? maybe Ill start seaching for or compiling a list of Mints that produced coins for other countries ? thats sundays rabbit hole sorted HAHAHAHAHA
I'm good! A few years ago there was a British CoinTalk member who did not like any kind of Mint Error either US or Foreign.. His silly opinion was that he didn't consider it part of Numismatics. We argued back and forth and never agreed on anything. He even stupidly stated that the British Mint never had any Error issues because their Mint was superior over the US Mint.. Then I showed him about a dozen well known British Mint Errors that collectors loved. He hated me more after that.. I didn't care!
The US mints far more Lincoln cents every year than most countries mint their whole selection of coins in a year. So it is inevitable that the US would make the most errors.
They've had some famous mule issues like the 2008 20p with the new obverse and old reverse so that there was no date on the coin. And they minted enough of them that they are only about £120 or so per coin - unlike the US mint mule errors that are so scarce they go for thousands.
Ouch well he just sounds like a edited ? haha it still amazes me just how many errors in the uk past & present I find so his theorys flawed. He hated you more !! for answering a question clearly an idiot errors ae the main reason Im interested in Numismatics. Long live the error
The value of US eror coins exceeds any other country thats true I just wish that other countries would catch up or recognise the value of these coins cause im in the UK
The Uk has a massive amount of forgery coins hence the reason the old round £1 coin was taken out of circulation. But now these fake coins are becoming valuable like many things because they have become a rarity I also love a fake coin as long as its appeared in my change obviously
