Under $40. But Lincoln cents aren't that expensive specially when you can recycle them for more.

As an addendum to my first statement..have no monthly budget but in the last few days I have picked up that Fr 352. Today I picked up a Series 1928B New York $20 in CHCU (needed for the collection) A Gem 65 Fr 850 New York Large Size Blue Seal..so for the last few days it has been around 1.8K

Lord help me as I am so addicted to notes..it's worse than crack!

You ought to see what my industry (media/publishing) is going through. Just about every other industry segment has been hit in the last few years. I personally think its a good time to be buying, but have to also be careful not to over due it.

First of all, you got me reading and following all of your PM threads and ogling the notes you share here or cleverly insert into other threads... Then you got me into your #4 Paper Money Contest and I truly felt the tug of interest in paper coming alive within me. While I got a lot of answers wrong on the contest, I got the collecting bug right! Now you've got me hooked on notes (beyond a very small family heirloom assortment of notes I've always had). I have fulfilled a New Year's resolution(s) in reading and learning more about notes and beginning to buy them too. After all it was easy enough to get me hooked given my personal interests in printing/printmaking since I hold a MFA in Printmaking. Additionally, I've noticed I'm pulling out my PM books as often or often(er) than my Redbook... I'm monitoring auctions for and the prices for notes too.:rolling:

The rest of you Paper guys got me infected with a love for the ABNCo. I've now got the fantastic and highly recommended book, The Story of American Bank Note Company chock full of engraved vignettes (actually printed from the dies) and since then acquired four complete ABNCo Archive Series portfolios of vignettes!

Rusty (mpcusa) here has me well off on my way searching for Allied Military Currency, to assemble a 43 and 43-A series of Italian Lire notes based on one old crumbly example I've owned most of my life from that little family heirloom collection.

This is to illustrate that Paper Money is addictive to the heart and soul of collectors. This is to illustrate that Paper Money has caused an increase in my collecting budget demand. Usually my collecting budget fluctuates over the course of the year with the bigger purchases from the US Mint or bullion being spikes. In the past, there have been months with no purchases or selling rather than buying. Sometimes selling to slim down the bulk, or moving into new interests so selling to create a new budget from which to buy other coins, or more Mint AGEs/ASEs/AGBs or just general bullion. Now paper has wedged itself in and there's much to learn and enjoy getting to know, so the budget is up early this year. I have to pace myself though, the year is long and there will be so endless temptations to evaluate.

My philosophy is not to assign a particular collecting budget, but rather to assign a personal price range for each and every piece you are collecting, that is of course if you know in advance what you are seeking for your collection, so that when the opportunity arises to acquire that coin or note for your collection, you will not be restricted, but emboldened to act. SEIZE THE MOMENT! :thumb:

I voted for 100-300 only because on average thats about what I spend monthly on coins/currency. But, I really have no set budget for the hobby. Some months I'll spend far more, some months I won't buy a thing. If you need a budget it's a good idea to set one.

my monthly income varies so much that it can be as little as $50 and as much as $1000. Given I collect a variety of issues I can always find something I can afford to satisfy my cravings lol

I have no budget--I have spent 0 to 5000 depends on the month..But i like to keep at an amount just before the wife changes the locks on the house-of course that level changes every month too...What should I get her of V-day?? I have been eyeing a 1914 D wheat in vf. What do you think that will cost me?? dinner and roses???

I spend probably somewhere around 400 a month or roughly 100 a week, and it's spread out between Coins, Paper Currency, and bullion

I wrote down $450 a month on the budget after existing the stock market. I then sold other valuables to help support my hobby.
