Your problem is simple - it's not the bag causing whatever it is that is going on with the coin !

Based on your pic of the coin in question -

    - I can't tell what is going on there. But it does not in any way, shape or form look like PVC residue ! At least not to me.

If it was/is PVC residue, a quick rinse in acetone would take it right off the coin. And if it does take it off then my guess would be it was on the coin before you ever got the coin ! But if it's toning, then acetone is not going to take it off.

Well, I have some proofs that were stored the same way. They were decontaminated right before I bagged them but one suffers the foggy deposit and the other is fine. They were stored in similar ways. I
guess it's possible I wound up with a mixed batch of zippy's. I have the bag that the proof with the deposit was in and will test it. This should be a better control than randomly testing a bag anyway. I'll have to try a lot of bags because I am positive it's the bags. Whether or not it's PVC residue is another story. I think were just detecting halogens. I don't really know the range of plastic formulas this would include. What do you say about the flips testing positive?

I don't know that they do test positive because as I have tried to explain in previous posts I have zero confidence in the Beilstein test to begin with.

Also, you have to understand that there are a multitude of things that can cause a coin to discolor like the one you've posted. And, that Zip-lock bags are not manufactured out of PVC and it's softening agents. They are made out of inert plastics. Bottom line, I don't think the Zip-lock bags have anything to do with what's going on with your coins. I think it is something else causing it, and the list of possibilities is pretty much endless.

Is it possible I'm wrong ? Sure, but I don't think I am.

Oh well, I've tested quite a few of the food grade zippy's now and none have tested positive or given any green flame at all. I am not getting anywhere with this Beilstein test but I am afraid to transfer anymore coins to the "non PVC" flips after seeing that flame turn bright green.
I will use a couple and be sure to decontaminate some less desirable proofs in fresh acetone and soapy water and seeing if there are any changes. Time will be the judge I guess. I'll be buying the Saflips for the rest of my coins as recommended by other members. Thank you anyway.

    ..."thank you all anyway.", rather.
