Is it just me or does it seem every time you are ready to make a submission for grading there are no "specials" running.. I can never seem to catch a break with these guys and have ended up paying full price every time I submit... is it just me or some of you other guys have luck to match mine lol...
I have never submitted during any "specials". If I'm lucky, the value of the slabbed coin is higher than my cost to buy it plus the grading/shipping fees. Of course I've probably been burned more times than I haven't. I've had a few big scores that cushions the blow of some of the disappointments. I probably fare better now than I did early on. Each submission is a learning experience.
Hehe regretably for my type set I'm limited to pcgs or ngc... don't get me wrong I own a fair number of icg and ANACs slabs, but those don't count in the competitive set. (the coins i'm sending in this time being for just that purpose)
I've never submitted coins myself, yet. But I assume that when my first time comes I'll be paying full price, because that's just how it always seems to go. lol
There's sort of a PCGS discount at the moment. If you do the QS for the anniversary boxes you can usually sell those for around $15 which gets you a little bit back
they also offering their 35th anni coin (slabbed) if you submit 10 or more but I cheap and and ANA member so no extra cost in sending to NGC lol
Depending what you were submitting the 8 coin voucher membership saves you significant money if you're using the regular tier. That also comes with a polo you can sell for like $20ish too.
PCGS and NGC haven't really had many specials this year that would lower your cost (like the submit four and get a fifth graded free that PCGS occasionally did). Your best bet is what @baseball21 mentioned (getting the box or slab or polo and selling it; although all of those might not be worth the expense of submitting that many coins if you don't have enough to send).
My last two submissions (14 coins and 1 coin) I received a week or so ago both came back in anniversary boxes. The 14 coin submission also included the anniversary coin.
I should before the time runs out assuming they havent run out. I just hate submitting this time of year. It's always super slow with Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years and usually submissions wont be done until next year at this point
My 14 coin regular submission took almost 2 months (8/27/21-10/22/21) and the 1 coin regular submission a little faster (9/8/21-10/25/21). I've got a few more coins ready to go and am contemplating going the NGC route this time.
NGC is taking about a month just to open packages and input them into the system. They're currently opening packages from the week of OCTOBER 12th. It's slow at both from the massive volume, but taking a month to open my package would be a nonstarter for me. Looking at their estimated turnaround times NGC is actually way worse. 88 days for world economy, 54 for us modern, 6 days for walkthrough, 25 days world express. I would expect it to be slower and likely significantly slower using them right now
My main reason to go the NGC route this time is for a couple IHCs that came back as "questionable color" from PCGS; one was a crack out from a straight graded ICG proof. IMO it seems NGC is more lenient ("market acceptable") with this series than PCGS. I may be just throwing money away but I just want to know.
In that case that very likely is the best move unfortunately. Just don't hold your breath waiting for the results lol. Hopefully they'll get to yours early
I have spoken to the 'biggies' at the NAA shows, and yes, they are tougher than anyone else. And they are proud of it.
