I was speaking of this particular Series Only! Which the Series 461 was The start as i believe connor1 was refering to:kewl:
Ok, Iam back from dropping the kids off at school so here some nice early issues I do alot of "Scatter Collecting" Which means i jump around from series to series Only because many are hard to find and if you see something from another series That your not currently working on you have to go for it, I have had many delays On my current set Series 661 for this reason but iam almost there! Here are some nice early examples:
Another CU 68... You trying to corner the market or what!! lol I have one 68 only and I better keep an eye on it with you around Those $5 and $10's are very nice for the denom.
Are you ready for another 68, I bought this note at the F.U.N show through Heritage!!, Just came in the mail today!! I will post in the general money thread as well!! Its a beauty!! Highest grade Series 691 $20 IN PCGS 68PPQ
The PCGS 66 PPQ you sold me is one of my favorites ! But that is just a bit more blue ,beautiful MPC !!!!!
Very nice. I dont own one of those in any grade Not that there are any of these that got in circulation but still. Nice note. Nice grade.
At the risk of sounding like a complete baffoon. Why is it hard to find MPCs in high grade. It seems to me that they would often be boxed away somewhere and many boxes would have been unloaded when the war was over. Were these burned or something? Did boxes of these ever make it out? If they did make it out then why is there such a premium on 66-68 notes?
It really depends on what your looking for, There are high grades up To 68 that i would deem affordable and are somewhat abundant in Graded condition Series 641 and 661 5 Centers i see all day on ebay For around $129 and below. But when you get to higher denominations the price does go up, Just Because they didnt print that many in comparison, Some people like Raw and think getting notes certified is a waste of money and thats There opinion :goofer: For my money it,s certified all the way!! Though my wallet is a little Bit lighter there is little doubt about the grade and authentication Which makes me sleep alot better at night!! As far as availability you wont find alot of it on places like e-bay Atleast the high grade stuff anyway your best bet is places like Heritage auctions and me of course:hail:
lettow mentioned in the Military Money thread the existence of "MPC destruction officers", wouldn't this have effected the availability of MPCs still in the collectors market today? Does anyone have more information on their effect? Did they keep records of how much they destroyed? Did they get to cherry pick notes for their own souvenirs? I'd be interested to know about their side of MPCs.
Hey chris, I would think they would have some kind of direct effect On what is in active circulation, But to start out you have to look At what was originally printed, According to the Comprehensive Catalog printed by Fred Schwan Here are the top 5 rarest notes Based on what was printed, This excludes replacements 1. Series 651 $5 1,600,000 Printed 2. Series 651 50 Cents 2,016,000 Printed 3. Series 591 $5 2,400,000 Printed 4. Series 651 25 Cents 2,688,000 Printed 5. Series 611 $5 2,800,000 This list is based on what was printed only, I know for a fact there Are a few others that you just dont see that should be included Such as the Series 691 in which many were destroyed and accurate Figures of what actually still exists are in question!
