Picked up this tray of foreign coins and some other things for $5. Turns out there was a silver Netherlands gulden and some other neat foreign coins I didn't have. Definitely worth it, always fun to find coins at sales!

I don't see huge value, but any silver coin is always good.

I love garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops, etc.. There were 4 garage sales in my neighborhood today. I drove right by all four without stopping.
I'm trying to stop buying great deals on stuff.....that I have no use for.

I always hope to find coins but it's only happened once. Usually if you do find them, they're modern from vacations, but I see a few Nepalese coins in yours and not many people go there.

Yeah, its an interesting lot for sure! There were some from early 1900s and some from 1950s and 60s in AU condition which are always nice to find.

One thing you can do is to maybe when you are at either a coin show or at a coin club, look out for the big world coin catalogs that people have that they might sell to you cheap. I picked up a couple ones I was interested in for about 10.00 from a guy because I saw he had newer ones, so I just asked him if he was willing to sell me the older ones cheap. He did! You might have to start inquiring. Basically these are great because they list all the coins and they do it by country. You can then also start figuring out if you have something more pricy (though you have to not take the prices as what it is, but it can very well give you an idea of which of the coins might have more value and you can research it). I got a coin once that I found out actually was one that was more valuable than the other year issues in the book and then found a dealer who wanted it. Since I knew that it was more valuable than the others, I found I got a good price. If I had not had that, I would not have known and probably would have tried to sell it for about 10 or 25 percent of what I got.

Thanks Matthew, that's very nice of you. Since I don't collect foreign it would be lost on me.

Although I do have a ton of foreign coins I've accumulated over the decades CRH, traveling, inherited, etc I don't know what I have, what they're worth or anything about them.

    No problem.

A collection like that sounds fun to look through! I would start by separating the old ones and the ones that you think look silver and putting them in a pile away from all the common foreign stuff. Then look them up on numista to see if they have low mintages or what their composition is, etc. Just search words and dates you see on the coin and then identify using pictures on the site. Also make a pile of the ones in different languages and such that you cant find online. You can as CT members to identify them ;)

Good luck, let me know if you need any help! :woot:

Hope you find some cool coins

I collect foreign silver because you can always find them in random foreign coin collections and you don't have to break the bank. You never know what you'll find!

I found currency from Argentina and Egypt once at a garage sale years ago. No longer have it as I swapped them out for Euro coins.
