$50,000.00 A Tv Coin & Art show owner win the Ngc Registry set top prize. I sure he spent 2x that much just to get this award for the coin and grading fee's & regrading them I hope a real collector wins next year!!,Chappell had Rick Tomaska compile the set anyway Barry just payed him.
No offense - but I work with several dealers to get coins in the grades that I like - does that make me a non-real collector? Next to win registry set prizes some of those coins command really high premiums and I would probably work with a dealer for those also. I know it seems disheartening to see some of the sets win just because they threw money at them, but that is their choice. I personally do not need a registry win to be happy with my collection. I also personally think some people put too much stock in registry sets. Some of the best collections will not be in registry sets simply because some of the coins are raw. Personally I would rather see a competition where all coins, no matter the holder or raw - are voted on by some set of experts. Or maybe even the public.
I should have written a better post Mark I agree with 100%.I have work with Rick T for many years on my Kennedy & Franklin. but what I meant was like you say just thur money out to have some that know what to do and grade a raw proof is a skill.and the winner really should be Rick Tomaska Here one I sending him soon he sure it will upgrade a lot higher.manly because he was the teacher to all of the TPG.
That is one nice coin! But I have to ask - Why upgrade it? What is on the holder is not really that important - for now. Maybe if you wanted to sell it - but just to keep it I would not upgrade it. Rick probably is not too worried about it - he may have built the collection, but he probably made good money doing it.
IMO, that coin better jump two full points or else it would be a waste of grading fees. It certainly doesn't look like it would go CAM.
