It is not a pattern by the Prussian mint, rather a proposed design by medalist Karl Goetz. - Preussen p.s. I have no idea what YMMV means Edited to add...never mind, I Googled it.
Goetz's designs for 2 - 20 Mark coins are listed in Rudolf Schaaf's "Die Proben Der Deutschen Münzen," the standard reference for German pattern coins. -Preussen
Queen Louise of Prussia Thank you for sharing, I collect coins from all over the world and usually only keep one per country but I love German coins from all the different periods that I have a bit of a small gather of those coins as well. Here is a medal that I already have pics loaded up to show... Karl Goetz Medal from 1910
Great coins and medals, all of you! I just got my first two Prussian coins last month, I will soon be making my own thread of German States and sharing scans of them in there. They are not anywhere near as nice as the examples shown in this thread! I also have a love of German coins...In my collection, coins of Germany rank 4th most overall, behind US, Canada and England (Great Britian)....But I expect someday Germany will overtake England for 3rd most in my collection. (and the greatest thing is that I can trace my lineage back to all those countries and more)
My lone Prussian coin a 1903A Fünf Mark. Looks to be formerly mounted but still I like it and perhaps one day I'll get some more.
Here is the Goetz silver Leipzig Medal dated 1913. The 4 eagles are in motion & they may be giving a beating to a French Rooster in this medal.
Yes, the scene does suggest killing France - and a few months after Goetz had his medal made, Germany was at war with France again. By the way, the monument on the other side is in Leipzig, Saxony. It was opened in 1913 (guess the medal was issued on that occasion). Kind of ironic that, at the time of the battle which it commemorates, Saxony was on the side of France ... Christian
