U.S. Mint Gears Up To Issue Commemorative County Pennies

    Yes!!

    As was reported in 2005:

U.S. Mint Gears Up To Issue Commemorative County Pennies

Funniest article I've ever read about the subject.

    A must read.

    Funniest. Numismatic. Article. Ever.

    Samples:

"Collecting all 3,143 county pennies will be a fun activity your family will enjoy for generations."

"Starting in 2006, the U.S. Mint will release five new pennies per year for the next 629 years...."

"Residents of Loving County, TX, population 67, are taking no chances. They have already tendered their penny's design, which features the Johnson family's round barn, the only structure of note in the vicinity. Residents said they plan to hold annual bake sales to maintain the building until the penny is released in 2371. "

"Richland Center, WI resident Tom McCrary said he is anticipating his penny's 2433 release. "

Fore also addressed worries that the penny may be out of use before the last counties are represented. "You have to keep your eye on the big picture—this is about Americans connecting with America through numismatics," Fore said. "Don't count the penny out so fast. This may be just the thing to get people excited about the penny all over again."

    and it ends with:

"The U.S. Mint has designed a folder for collecting and displaying the county pennies. The cardboard murals, measuring 8 feet by 35 feet, will be available at most Walgreens stores, or directly from the Mint by mail for $4.95 plus $179 for postage and handling."

DO NOT CASH THEM IN AT FACE VALUE. It sounds like you have mint rolled state quarters. They bring a premium.

Mint rolls bring $15 over face for the 2 roll sets. The bags bring a similar premium. These are legit collectible US mint products.

maybe sell them in lots like this:

Having the boxes is a definite plus.

Simple, break them up and turn them into 160 complete P&D sets, sell them WAY lower than the lowest going rate on feebay (which based on the current buy it now is $80 and he's already sold 11)...something like $45 which would almost guarantee sales, and walk with over $7000 after the dust settles. :high5:

The State Flags, State Seals, State Nicknames, State Bird, State Fish, State Motto, State Tree, etc, etc, etc...they could go on forever and I'm sure they will.

Sorry to hear about your father.

I'd suggest holding onto them a while to see how they shake out. When you can identify the common ones go through and pull out the gems and varieties.

There's no rush. Most of these will be losers but don't just spend the winners right along with them.

I get several emails a month from state quarter collectors looking to trade and sometimes buy. They want to complete their albums: for whatever reason. There is a demand for them. Join several statequarter groups and tell what you have. You'll be able to help others finish their albums. Wacthout for the ones who want to buy 20-40 of a kind. They're trying to buy at face and make albums for resell too. Sell to them at a nice premium. Good luck.
