    Hey everyone ! I have a question for you . It's simple . Do you prefer Old U.S coins ( 1700's to 1800's )or Modern U.S Coins( 1900's- present) ?
I love Old coins and have since I was a Kid ( No @CoinJockey73 , Not from down the street). I like them because of their History and their designs and whose pockets they may have been in .

Guess i can't be part of this either. I like them both. Way to exclude people, Sal.

It's not divisive to recognize different people like different things. I'm fascinated with early copper. Others are fascinated with Dollars. Still others are fascinated with holders.

I just don't have the fascination with Moderns that others do. I also never understood Beany Babies or Comic Book collecting.

And others never understand my fascination for die cracks, CUDS and trivial differences in Die varieties or Die States.

    VIVE LA DIFFERENCE!

I don't really have a preference. I enjoy all coins. I like the old for the history and I like the new for the looks of the uncirculated. I wish that I could afford uncirculated pre 1900 coins. So I'll just go along and enjoy everything this great hobby has to offer.

Both. Just depends on what is being compared for what the preference is

I'd say I like old coins the best, the newest coin I bought lately was a 1926 quarter. I typically buy US coins from the 1850s to the late 1910's because of their availability, low price in low grades, and silver content. I only have one example of a Morgan dollar and one Peace dollar, so I'll be looking to get more of those soon.

I'm not a big fan of modern coins. I prefer pre-1935 coinage.

I love both the old and new but favor the old due to the history of what was going on at the time it came out.I also think the old ones are like works of art.Todays just seem much more watered-down and mass produced.

1947 and earlier. Coins without presidents/founding fathers on them.

    I lose interest after 1807.

First I lost interest in Memorials. Then I lost interest in Wheaties. Then I lost interest in Indians. Then I lost interest in Flying Eagles. Then I skipped the late date and middle date Large Cents and went straight to the Early Date Flowing Hair and Draped Bust. I haven't lost interest since.

I like both, but have certain types in each category I prefer, with no rhyme or reason. I like half cents and liberty seated coinage from the 1800's and have recently begun acquiring modern commemorative silver dollars. I've always liked peace dollars and Mercury dimes as well.

it's all good to me but due to the way I collect, I like circulation coinage, I don't see to much "old stuff". SO I'd have to say Moderns.

and really depends on how you classify "modern". Like 1950 to present, or like lincoln cent jeff, roosie washington, kennedy, or Wheat, memorial, shield, or just memorial and shield, or it's gotta be an indian to be outside of "modern".

I mean in the 1950s, it was anything pre-great depression, in the 1970s it was anything 1950s and earlier, in the 80s it was anything 1965 and newer, after silver was removed, and heck some people now want to classify "modern" anything dated 2000 and newer.

I feel like "modern" is a moving target and not clearly defined in the hobby, and never has been.
But maybe I'm not so "in tune" with the happenings in the hobby and, I just missed the memos on it.

I like the old coins as they aren't produced anymore, so rarer than newer coins. Also, usually more history with them.
