TypeCoin971793 Just a random guy on the internet

10+% of the mintage is accounted for, which is really high for the era

I got 3 of the Peace Dollars yesterday and went back to see what's going on with the CC and O Morgans I bought. The email I got 9 days ago from the Mint said they were "Shipped". Tracking shows they are still in transit to my local USPS facility. Kinda weird cause the Peace Dollar's were shipped AFTER the supposed Morgan shipped. IDK...I'm really thinking about not ordering from the Mint anymore.

Just gonna say, ebay has been coming down a lot since the coins were released, sales for a single CC morgan are in the JM bullion range now also. it crashed out with all the quick flippers in on it, as they dropped it like a hot potato looking for a quick flip profit. Same happened with the 2 silver eagle reverse proof set, crashed immediately as the flippers tried to undercut each other for a quick unload because they probably stuck it all on credit cards and can't finance all these coins they bought this year, since flipping retail items for profit seems to be their jobs.

I hope these people get burned and leave the hobby alone soon. I don't normally wish people ill will, but damit it's bad for the hobby to have all of them in with their bots and scripts making some artificial rarity, then dropping it like a hot rock. the CC and O went up because it had a limit of 10 which put a whole lot of them into the flippers hands, the others never got that bad with 3 limits.

I have some hope for the 2021 RP silver eagle 2 coin set, hoping that in a few years/decades people might build SAE sets and decide to pick up those two reverse proofs down the line and it slowly goes up in value over time but the quick cash flippers killed it out of the gate. paid $175 and lucky if it would sell for $200 from day one.

Those aren’t quick cash flippers, that’s too generous. They are the lost generation, The Keds Kids.

  9. I attempted on the first minute of sale for the coins and each time I was booted out. This was the third time it has happened to me and always for coins that have a low mintage. I contacted the Mint and was told there was a glitch in the system and the private collectors were unable to get thru. But the coin dealers were able to crash the site and get the coins. If there was a limit per household how did the secondary market get the majority of the coins? Being paranoid I believe it is an inside get rich scheme. The same has happened with the new 2021 Silver Eagle in BU and bullion, the secondary market makes it almost impossible for the little guy to get the one or two coins for their collection.

The mint does not guarantee perfection. Sounds like you got unlucky there.

You will need 10 posts on the site, I believe. So comment on a few other posts, and come back ;)

I think the long term value in these will be in the MS70 examples as much of the mintages will not achieve that status based on images across the internet. There will be quite a few but nowhere near 175k of each available in MS70 grades. The final mintage will be below 175k each once its all said and done. Some are flipping them some are hoarding them. I just looked at an ebay listing for a set of 6 in MS70 going for $2195. 11 sold.

You have different groups of people. Some not interested at all. One group content with OGP singles. Another group with OGP sets. Another interested in a 70 set. I'm going for at least one 70 set, maybe two to keep for my own collection.

I got multiples of every coin except for the CC, which I got shut out on. I got anxious and bought one CC on EBAY and spent $249. I was initially going to hold it for Christmas for my husband's stocking but was over anxious and gave it to him the day it came. Now I want to get rid of the multiples of the others but don't want to sell them on EBAY. I think for myself anyway, the acquisition became like a sport, after getting shut out on the CC. The credit card bill this month is going to be a killer!

After 10 years of inflation at the rate we’re going now?! I’d be pretty surprised to ever see them below issue price.

Let’s go back exactly 10 years ago, what was the hot mint item? The 25th anniversary 5 coin ASE sets dropped at the end of October which included a reverse proof. These came in the nicest boxes the mint has EVER sent out. The boxes were thick, heavy with perfect thick acrylic finish. Also a white fabric to protect the box. The inside of the lids are padded velvet with treasury logo embossed.

The coins were in capsules that didn’t move and didn’t pop open. Secured in another high quality solid frame that popped up and has magnets in the bottom so it could be used as a display. This was covered by another velvet pad and COA. This all came in a cardboard box that was in another slip cover to protect the main box. Five ASEs including all this packaging went on sale exactly 10 years ago for…… $300. And that was outrageously expensive at the time! People complained. Then they doubled in value and stayed there. Now granted. That was only a 100k mintage and was 5 coins. They’re still worth double issue. Silver was $30-$40/ oz back then!

Fast forward to today and a single ASE proof in a junk cardboard box with silver at $24 is $83. I hate to break it to everybody but we aren’t far away from ASEs proofs being $100 a pop from the mint. You will likely see it within the next 10 years. People are paying $100-$150 on the aftermarket for them already. Ungraded.

The point being, as time goes on, everything in the past seems cheaper and prices trend up as time goes on. Your dollar is losing buying power. If nothing else inflation alone will support the current sale prices of the Morgans going forward. Some people try to pretend it isn’t happening but you don’t have to search hard to see it.

Very few things are still a good deal anymore. In 2000 gas was $1.33 all summer. Now at $3.50 nobody bats an eye. It’s not that we like it or it hasn’t been this high before. It’s the fact we’ve gotten used to it already and now we don’t even get upset about it. Suppose the next level for us is $5-$6 for everyone to lose their minds over for a while. Until we get used to that new level.

Our local water/garbage bill was $85 a quarter in 2006. 13 years later it became $230 a quarter. That’s the minimum. What’ll it be in another 13 years? $600?
