Well, the least that he could do would be to put a picture up on that auction before we start dishin' out the dirt......
I wouldn't call it a scam (a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.) He is being very honest about what he is selling, with the exception of the A UNBELIEVABLE VALUE & OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY, but those are only opinions. Yes this is an auction for JUNK but believe it or not a lot of people sell junk and even some make more than the people with something we would deem worth selling.
They sell lots of them on eBay. Try searching coins for "COPY or "REPLICA" in coins and see what you find.
Note: I am an eBay employee I saw this thread on the CoinTalk Twitter account and checked out the item. I've asked the seller to please post a picture and provide more relevant info. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Feel free to report other suspected scams to me. Ivanka at ebay dot com
How? Send you a PM? In the mean time, try reading this thread http://www.cointalk.com/t89066/ Aside from that, welcome to CT. I am sure we can find a few tasks for you.
@rlm - yes, send me a PM or email me. And, thanks for reporting that other item. @mpcusa - what percentage of listings would you say are fraudulent? Do you see any particular trends? If you think there are an increasing number of counterfeits on the site, let me know.
You're joking right? On the ebay coin discussion board there is a thread call "the coin scam thread" There is also a group called the CFE. Why don't you pop in sometime?
Here Ivanka, This should keep you busy for a little while. http://www.china-mint.info/fakechinesecoinsellers.html
Ivanka....did they (ebay) put you here (or perhaps you volunteered) in an effort to help crackdown on the utter nonsense thats sweeping through the numismatic portion of ebay (ultimately helping ebay lose $$)? Thank you for helping us!!
Notsure, Ebay makes money on listing and fv fees. Ebay asks us the users to report counterfeit coin listings but they have made it harder for us to do. Why?
I reported this before Ivanka showed up, so I have no idea which is responsible. Regardless, it has been pulled by eBay.
Could Ivanka be our link to helping reduce the amount of CHINESE counterfeits pouring into this country? I think eliminating all foreign sellers of replicated U.S. coins would be a good start. Eventually they will find other ways, but hopefully by then we'll be a step ahead of them and nail the people buying and reselling these as authentic coins.
Hi Ivanka, Thanks for being around!! And watching are backs but i do have to Say i think e-bays fee structure is very high! I had an e-bay store Once upon a time...
The listing in the op in my opinion was minor compared to what goes on there everyday. While there may not have been photos the seller clearly stated what he had. The CFE (coin forgery ebay) has thread after thread of counterfeits on ebay. I dragged this over. Certification number 14996983. Seller "ronknappronald" tries to explain away the weak strike on this PCGS counterfeit. He can't because it's not genuine. The genuine piece from Heritage has an overall good strike and pleasing toning. Also note the forger did not do a good job on the obverse insert. Item location: Bay City, MI, United States http://cgi.ebay.com/1892-CC-MORGAN-DOLLAR-PCGS-MS-61-RARE-COIN_W0QQitemZ320480266189 Pedigree from Heritage.
