I bought three D mint Morgans and three S mint. All look great except one of the D mints has what looks like a strike through. Any other errors received by any one? Bottom Center Close up
Bob, it is very unlikely that another coin would receive the same (or similar) strikethrough. It is usually considered a "one and done" (like college basketball players and the NBA draft.)
Looks to be a reeding peel ...looks more like the wire like peel is just on the top of the coin. Is it in hand embedded or is it loose, piece of medal?
After closer examination, @Paddy54 might have nailed it. Look at the first closeup picture blown up. It looks like a lighting shadow under a loose thread or wire.
Chris, I didn’t mean one exactly like mine. I was asking if anyone else received a D mint with a similar problem or error. I saw a couple other strike throughs posted on the PCGS boards.
Id that with the numerous reports all over the place of scratched and PMD coins straight from the mint that at least some of them are strike throughs
Very cool retained strike thru. Like I said before It would be cool to see these dies strike more coins next year. And yeah, just like always, you have to be on your toes when @Paddy54 is on line.
That's awesome. I hope you'll follow up in this thread, or at least link a new thread here. I'd hate to miss you posting it up in a new thread. I'm very intrigued with this find. Congrats on a nice one.
I had this pit in my 2021-D Morgan that I just received. I'm not sure if it is post-strike damage, F.O.D. during the strike, or some sort of planchet defect. Anyway I'm not sure if this is an error or just plain old damage. Both of my Denver Morgans were less than perfect. The other Denver had what looked like a bag mark and two pinholes. One of he pinholes and the bag mark had striation like someone ran a tweezer or other tool across the surface (or it got hit by another coin). I've been reading the another thread about the Mint and Quality Control.
this is not my coin or pictures, it's from "the other forum", but it's an oddity also, it's a 2021 S morgan, has a similar cheek mole to this one above, and this one has weakness on the reverse. I wish the pictures were better, I wish I had a weight on it, it is what it is Any idea what this is because it's huge to be simple PMD, and doesn't explain the weakness of the right wing and breast feathers on the reverse necessarily either. Also I noted a bump on the rim on by the first star of UNUM. this has me intrigued but I've no idea what I'm looking at and the consensus is it's PMD for some reason..... compared to the one just above on the lip, this is a crater
I’m so glad I’ve seen this thread! My 2021-D has some damage on the rim and edge starting at the E in one and ending before the D in dollar. I’ve never had a coin arrived with this kind of damage from the mint before.
