The Mamluks where the first to defeat the Mongol army on the Battlefield/ they also drove Pope's Templar forces from Acre.

    Nice new aquisition !
However, the Mamluks were not the only, and certainly also not the first to defeat the Mongols on the battlefield. Especially in the beginning of their expansion of their territory, the Mongols were tactically not very advanced. For example they were defeated profoundly at the battle of Parwan agains a far smaller army of Jalal al-Din Mangubarni Khwarezm shah. In addition, despite a number of large battles, the Great Mongols never succeeded in conquering the Dehli Sultanate.

    Nice acquisition!
    Is that a 90° rotation?

The majority of Islamic coins exhibit 90° die alignment, a tradition carried over from Sasanian Iran.

Great capture John! Well done. I only have one Mamluk, but got it because of their tough reputation.
