This is my second show for this year, one was back in February. Out of 30 dealers only 2 had ancients! Some coins from the display, Surprisingly I found the prices for ancients cheaper compared to previous shows, so I bought some goodies, all for just 160 AUD. I've always wanted an early Roman denarius, and this coin just grabbed my eyes, definitely one of my top 10 coin of this year! Anonymous Republican denarius - Helmeted Roma/Dioscuri - After 211 BC, 3.77g. This dealer also had a bunch of other ancients in a box, and Christmas came early when I saw this denarius of Trajan among them, with the famous Trajan's Column Obv-IMP TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC P M TR P Rev-COS VI P P S P Q R RIC 307, seems like this is also a less common variety compared to RIC 292. This one's another bargain steal! Mark Antony legionary denarius, me thinks it's LEG XX. And last but not least, a coin of Carausius with Pax, I also wanted a coin from his reign, and with his coins, I'll take what I can get. This show definitely made my day after months of not having any good purchases, and it's definitely satisfying to grab the coins right after I purchased them rather than wait for months on end due to delayed or even cancelled shipping!
Awesome! I'd have jumped on that Marc Antony for $20 as well as the Crasius for $30. Great pick ups. You are getting me hyped for my first coin show in like 2 years. only 2 and a half more weeks.
This is a nice example of Crawford 167/1, one of the later anonymous Roma/Dioscuri denarii, minted circa 179-170 BC. You can read a bit about how this is identified in the Anonymous denarii guide here.
