Any other wives like mine when it comes to coins?

No all my wife requests of me is that I talk to here first so she knows what I'm doing. She hates when money's missing out of the account without knowing why, She's never stopped me and knows I do it with caution.

    In defense of wives....

My wife is great -- very supportive. She's not particularly interested, but she supports what I do (and I support what she does).

Granted, I don't purchase high ticket items, but then, neither does she. We still have two kids' tuitions to come up with in the future . . .

My wife has attended as many coin shows as I have, she spent three hours with me yesterday, she tells me I earn the money I can spend it the way I want, the other day I was going to sell some of my platinum bullion, she told me to hold unto it. I think she prefers this hobby to buying and fixing up old cars, The hobby of mine I think she enjoyed the most was barbecuing.

My wife knows and she has a detailed book of what I paid and the notes value...she still seems stunned on the last 6K purchase I made.

I have to say that your comment shows you have your head and heart in the right place. I like (OK really, really like) my coin collection, but my two boys are my pride and joy.
My younger son and my wife make fun of my collecting, but my comment to the boys is that it will put their kids through college.

  10. My wife is generally supportive of my coin collecting but does not understand why anyone would want to collect anything but shoes. OTOH she is a big fan of jewelry and can relate more to my bullion side. TC

This is an interesting thread because it is EXACTLY the same kind of thread I see on other forums I visit that are related to guns, cars, photography, ham radio, electronic gadgets, flashlights, knives, and tools.

The answer I see most often, and my own answer, is the classic "don't ask, don't tell." My wife doesn't necessarily approve of all the things I buy, and I usually don't tell, and she kind of knows not to ask. That way everybody is happy.

I have a remarkable thing going with my wife.

She has taken an interest in coins to some extent. But here's what's amazing - since we are so utterly different, we compliment each other perfectly when checking out coins. There are many different angles of choosing coins, and 'twixt the two of us we touch more bases than either would do alone.

We've known each other almost 27 years, and the whole coin thing is a new and different dimension for us.

My fiance is great... one of the things that attracted me to her was the fact that she thought I was a "coin collecting nerd."

She really supports me and wants me to go to more shows... it gets me out of the house ... since she mostly works from home.

  16. I have not had a girlfriend in...longer time then I'd care to admit...(I'm a lot like the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons...in personality and other things...) but I have got to say, I don't think I could make it work with any girl who didn't "get" my collecting habits. That's been one of my main character traits my whole life...it's a big part of what makes me, Me...and I could not hide it like some people do. I'm a pretty open person...although I have the capablitiy to keep secrets forever...(I've never revealed anything to anyone I shouldn't have....I'm very proud of that) I don't ENJOY keeping secrets...and would truly feel bad about hiding my collecting habits from any girl I might become romantically involved with. I don't think I could do it, and I don't think I would want to. Besides, trying to hide it would mean changing pretty much my whole life.

Unfortunatly for me....I don't think it's something I'm going to have to worry about anytime soon.

My wife supports my hobby, but she has no idea why I enjoy collecting; she thinks it's a bore. Typically, I only bring her into the fold on big ticket items...as it only seems right to discuss such large purchases. The only time she wanted me to slow down, was right when I got into the hobby and every other transaction on our account was a coin related purchase. But now that I have gotten caught up on my collection...it's all about maintenance and upgrades for the most part :)

My wife is very supportive the majority of the time. She likes certain coins like ASEs and Peace Dollars so we have them. She wants me to collect the 3 oz. "quarters" starting this year. I guess I can force myself to do it.
