I should receive the one Morgan-s from the mint today, I will post a few pictures when it arrives a bit later.
I have followed the coins movement, I get constant updates from the post office, more than I want. Mine says arrival by 3PM EST.
What you see is what I got. Very flat looking, fields and devices appear identical. No flash or brilliance detectable. So so look. I'll take the old Morgans.
I have been trying to contact the mint about my orders. What a joke that is. On hold forever. Both my orders show processing. The first has been that way over a week now. The second order has an incorrect charge in pending payment to my credit card. Supposed to be $514.95 and is showing $259.50. I had a pending payment for the correct amount for first order initially. Now its not showing when I check the card online. Such a cluster!
I had similar issues, I had ordered more and they appeared then disappeared. I think it is this simple, you will get what you get and will need to be happy, as I see no recourse with the mint.
Looks like the coins were struck on burnished blanks. If that's the look I get I'll be more than satisfied........
They look pretty much as what the mint represented I would say, I never really grasped exactly what is done to create a burnished blank however.
Just lucky I guess, and maybe because I got only one of the new Morgans it shipped out a bit quicker?
What I would love to see is the abraded dies. I want to see some flow lines. bring the old dies back next year. Make a little series with the most iconic coin of Modern day. Woah, I had to catch myself talking politics, enough. LOL It would be fun to see another batch of these same Master dies next year, with a slight blossom of mintage.
A better picture of the new Morgan received on Saturday. (but in the capsule). The satiny look is growing on me.
I cant disconnect my brain from comparing your 2021 to the original Morgans. To me, the luster, frost, cartwheels, etc provide so much character on the originals. All of which are missing on that 2021. I dont think I’ll attempt to grab a new one in the after market.
The new replicas are one satiny flat hue on the entire coin, no flash or cartwheeling as we know it. The mint apparently intended these to be unique in their own right. They are still pleasant to look at and are well-struck. These Morgans all also 99.9% Silver unlike their ancestors and weigh .858 troy oz. So every variation from the originals adds up in one way or another.
Is it just me or does does her cheek look like there is a blemish and the reverse eagle's chest look like there is some toning? Maybe I should clean my glasses.
