I'd like to hear from anyone who got one of these sets, if you've even seen it yet.

Order took 21 days to receive. I finally get it today. Debated sending in for grading without opening it to get the LE label. Then saw shipping was going to be $32 to get them back due to 6 coins and added up the costs and felt $200 wasn't worth the risk to get these graded.

So I opened up the box. The dime was in the capsule but loose inside the box sliding around. The others were so tight you could hardly pull them out. I started examining them closely and was amazed with the haze and spots! Look next to the 1 on the quarter. Look at the edges around the perimeter of the quarter.
The dime and the Tuskegee quarter were good. There was haze on the edges of the half already too. How would you feel paying this much, waiting 21 days and then receiving these?

I'm sending this back. What a pain. Think I'm done with the mint. Who knows what to expect from the Morgans.

Wonder who did? This set seems like it was put together with rejects.

I've increasingly seen this type of thread. The mint doesn't guarantee perfection. If you want perfect coins then buy aftermarket and pay the premium.

Y'all want to buy lottery tickets and return them when you don't win. That's not how this works and it's not fair to the mint. This return mentality costs the mint money and ultimately reduces the appeal for them of producing collector coins at all. You're shooting yourself in the foot.

Considering the mints highly inflated prices and tens of thousands of customers I think they can absorb a few returns.

The set is redundant. Limited Edition? Hogwash. It's a set full of coins previously released. I can't for the life of me figure out why folks would buy these sets.......and at such an exacting premium.

Nonsense. The price is posted. You can choose to pay it or not. They don't guarantee a perfect product. You order a mint set, you get the mint set. You're done. Got 70s? Great you got lucky. Most will get average nice but imperfect coins. Endless returns to try and get a perfect coin is dishonest and sad.

So the contention is that they can’t send proofs out without spots now and that should be accepted for the price? I didn’t have to get PF70s to be happy but I expected better than PF67. These are proofs and you expect some level of QC. They’re not paying attention to anything that goes out the door. I wonder how bad something would have to be before it would be rejected if anything does.

I’ve never sent anything back before.

Try selling anything with spots on it at a show. They’ll offer you melt.

I've been buying proof sets and other products from the US Mint since 1959. 2021 was the year of my last purchase. Price up, quality down does not work for me. The presentation packaging is terrible. And, notice that current value is quite a bit less than original cost on most mint products.

Which has nothing to do with the mint. It’s been long established for years proof and other stuff spot from every mint of the world.

Some coins are great and some get a foreign material on them that cause spots. It’s not a uniform product. It’s a crapshoot. That would be fine if this product was around $100 with better packaging. They’re asking top dollar and then not delivering on it. The S ASE isn’t that bad. But the others shouldn’t have been sent out. These only get worse with time.

I received my 2021 LE set about ten days ago. Sent UPS, versus USPS. My set is gorgeous. While it;s true they cheapened the packaging, the coins themseleves are lovely. As an aside, I received a text and email that the 2020 had become available. I got shut out last year, and took advantage of the reminder and purchased it for $201 and it arrived today. The packaging on the 2020 is more substantial.

Proofs and uncirculated silver strikes have been getting milk spots for years and years from all around the world. The US mint pricing is actually pretty low compared to the other world mints. I'd prefer it to be lower, but look at what the major world mints charge and it seems "cheap" by comparison.

So you would be content receiving these and calling it good? While somebody else received the unspotted version.

I have some older proof sets that look amazing. I think the mint is trying to make the coins look too much like what todays collectors or flippers think they should look like. A mirror finish will haze over quicker than just a Proof finish. They don't need that finish to be proof. IMO

Proof is a method of manufacture...........

As mentioned before, that's what was ordered. Nothing says you will get a perfect coin. Would I be thrilled no, but that was what was ordered. The spotting issue is well known and has been for years and years. To assure unspotted you have to buy aftermarket

I don't agree bb21. When proof coins are ordered there is an expectation that extreme QC is utilized in the minting AND release of the coins. That is the whole purpose of the proof manufacturing process.

Spotting is absolutely well known, but not when it leaves the mint. Spotting over time can and possibly should be expected, not upon receipt of the coins though.

I absolutely endorse returning the set received by @Vess1 , that set should not have passed muster through QC.
