Hey all, Got this bad girl in today, I’m thinking she’s XF 40-45 possibly AU50 just comparing to other graded 1869s per PCGS but my god it looks like she has seen some better days to me! Has some minor porous spots going on from possible environmental damage. Enough to take her down from 3.11 grams to 2.9 grams. Still a cool find I think!
This is not minor damage. The coin is covered with damage. To top it off, someone worked on the obverse, trying to improve the coin.
Don't dig paddyman has the U.S. covered, he'll have you arrested, ha. Your IHC has issues but it is a keeper. F maybe VF, in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong. Thanks and good luck.
Haha well I don’t want to be arrested so I’ll go ahead and stick to doing what I do best, not digging
Appears to have been in the ground or in contact with something acidic on the obverse, so ED, environmental damage, but still a nice coin with all elements readable.
Yes, it's not perfect. But, you're perfectly able to "read" the coin. For an 1869, it would definitely be a keeper, for me. Thanks for posting it.
I love it when members have something positive to say, rather than merely bad mouthing a guy's coin. Who knows what story that coin could tell? It is an historical artefact and you are not it's guardian.
I definitely agree! That’s what’s great about collecting coins especially older US coins they’re rich in history, really doesn’t make sense to talk down about them. If you ask me coins like this tend to interest me a bit more because they have seen more of the world.
Meant to say "...you are now it's guardian." Somehow, after just a short while, (less than 5 hours), I am unable to edit that post.
Nice for being in the ground for so long. Has to be a metal detecting find. At least the ground did not have much acid composite.
