A sad story, in which coin theft is arguably the most minor component. But, hey, let's have another scare thread!

Or for which coin theft is a reocurring and constant component. Its not a scare thread. It is a fact, and one reported in this case by the State of NY as part of their efforts to outline such events. If they couldn't pawn off the coins, this entire sorry story would have been snipped in the bud. That is what one needs to focus on. It does ruin lives. It does lead to murder. It is preventable.

    how about this one

    https://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/local-news/family-heirlooms-stolen-from-storage-locker-4514988

I barely post most of what I find. It would be unfair to the forum to post them ALL. It is so common that one can fill the entire board with just stolen coins from local newspapers across the country.

I agree with Jeff. It is a scare thread, but in this case, you are scouring the web for every report of coin thefts just so you can justify the addition of a new forum for CT. Yes! I said forum because CT does not have sectional parts of forums.

Why don't you put it to rest!

It is clear that you let it ruin your life. In the real world, coin theft is minor when you look at all the theft out there. It's all bad but you can't let it control you.

It is not a scare thread.

I can find hundreds of these every month. But there is no problem. There is a problem. There are 12 new threads listed to the right. ONE of them is on coin theft. No need to over act. There is a reason, though, to consider how broad this problem is and what can be done to fend off the continual marketing in stolen coins in the mainstream Numismatics industry.

BTW - I do not. We have an ENDLESS number of threads by people asking if their coins that were rolled over by an 18 wheeler is some form of get me rich quick mint errors... and many of them troll the entire forum to great delight. This is just a few posts on coin thefts, because it is a real problem that the industry needs to confront, as do all the collectors. Collectors deserve a degree of safety and an expectation that they will get full cooperation by auction houses and TPGer, and the dealers (not to mention the cops)... and not some half hearted action forced by the law. The sanitation worker in India who gave back a found gold coin had greater moral scruples than most, if not the entire industry. Give it some thought. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life surrounded by guard dogs and with tec-9 automatic under your pillow because you collect and deal with coins?

I'd like to hear the whole story, please. Some of us are late to the show. Maybe a link can be provided to a thread that explains all this? Thank you.

It seems awfully coincidental that you bring all of these reports up right after some of us "shot you down" over your wish to have a forum dedicated to numismatic crimes. I don't believe what you claim to be your motive for these reports.

    TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I'll try to summarize as objectively as possible based on what I recall from a number of recent threads/posts by the OP. Also be aware that he has me on ignore, so he won't be able to respond to my comments. That's why I'm trying be objective and not editorialize.

    * The OP and his family had a collection stolen in the past.

    * He feels the NY City police were less than helpful.

    * He has been proposing that the only way to stop coin theft is eliminate all markets for stolen items.

    * He said that many/most dealers do not care if coins are stolen as long as they can make a profit and are a large part of the problem (my interpretation of his posts)

    * His proposal to fix the problem is for all coins to be traced/pedigreed through methods like AI technology. A dealer cannot purchase coins unless they have this traceability and the seller can prove they are the owner. He has not addressed the fesibility, costs, or management details nor if a system will even allow collectors to sell items without incredible amounts of bureaucracy and red tape.

    * Members have contributed other potential solutions such as personal security, storage methods, keeping your collecting interests private, legally possessing and carrying firearms, and others. He repeatedly discounts them and shouts them down and says they will not work (particularly personal firearms)

    * When told that some jurisdictions already have laws requiring ID checks, manditory hold times, and reporting to law enforcement when selling precious metals and similar items, he does not comment

    * If you disagree with him or push for data he labels you a troll or being pro criminal. Some very credible and experienced CT members have been labeled as trolls for disagreeing.

    * MY OPINION - He has alienated a lot of members by being incredibly narrow minded. His opinion is the only one that's right and if you have other thoughts, you're part of the problem. That's why you see all of the pushback as he continues to "prove" that his solution is the only solution and if you disagree, you're wrong

Hopefully, that helps bring you up to speed. Please take the time to read his other posts and make your own judgement.

He has me on ignore as well because I keep bring up that more than one in his family use the member account. You really don't know who is actually posting. Many here knew the dad. A really smart man that just got sideways with many members here.
I'm good with the opinions they post but will still call out false information.

It's quite sad that these things happen in life.
    But,
Sure is amusing watching you try to make a mountain out of a vole hill.

I think the problem is more than a vole hill, or even a mole hill.

But @cplradar, your approach to the forum on this issue doesn't seem to be winning over many hearts and minds. If anything, it seems to be turning people away from your point of view. What exactly do you want to accomplish? Do you want to persuade people here, or do you want to prove (to... someone?) that we here at CoinTalk are just another part of the problem?
