this just my option! There last large size Dollar made. plus there find new type all the time! Plus I am looking for a Gem Bu 71&72-P PM me
I like Ike! My husband is an Ike collector. He just bought 250 from our local dealer and we are planning to go through them some Sunday to look for varieties. He just completed his Dansco album yesterday -- the 1976s were the last to get filled - there are just so many of them (proof, mint mark, silver clad etc). Compared to the dollar coins minted since SBA, at least with the Ike's they have the feel of the old dollars previously minted and its been a fun hunt to get them all!
This my help your husband when he get to ck what Ike variety's that you & him may find.I know it has help me! here the link.:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb: http://ikegroup.sslpowered.com/ikeg...ndex.php?sid=bb6f95465fe3a7742a15ce6ccebc5ffc
Here is my latest IKE. Hard to see all the nice colors around the rim, but the toning is what makes this coin really stand out. I snapped a quick pic of the obverse, but forgot to get the reverse. Also what makes this coin "special" is that it is a micro S variety which is neat. Enjoy!
One of numerous toned Ikes... working on finishing off a toned MS NGC set... http://www.pbase.com/frattlaw/toned_ikes
Jello - I tried to PM you, but it wont let me. I have quite a bit of BU 71's and 72's I can give up. i need 73 and 78!
Thanks Stewart. I'm not sure about the clashing. Here are some more shots and one detail of the forehead in case it helps you see anything.[/QUOTE] Nice Pictures, I can't see the clash I thought I saw in the other photo must have been the way the first picture was lit. Still Very Nice Coin:eating:
This one got slabbed with a piece of nylon fibre imbedded between the coin and the insert. Most noticeable on the reverse at 11:30. At first I thought I scanned a hair but a second scan showed the exact same thing. I won;t send it in for a reholder since its a PITA. BTW, this one's close to being a Silver Proof PegLeg.
Here's a 1974-S with the Clear Mintmark Variety: The S mintmark changed in 1974 and a relatively small quantity of the 1974-S Silver proofs received the old mintmark before it was replaced. These are called MMS-1. MMS-1 (Above) - This mintmark is standard for the 1973 Silver Proof Eisenhower Dollars. The upper serif is a "ball" of metal. There is a variant of the MMS-1 which is a lighter punch meaning the mark was not struck deeply into the die. The net result is the upper and sometimes the lower areas within the loops are clear and show the mirrored fields of the coin between the loops. This is also known as a "Micro S" mintmark by some. MMS-2a - This mintmark appears slightly distorted but is primarily characterized by the notch which appears on the outer left of the upper loop in addition to a vertical line which represents the serif. MMS-2b - This mintmark is the same as the MMS-2a except there is a serif split on the upper right corner. MMS-2c - This mintmark is the same as MMS-2b except that the upper loop is literally doubled giving the appearance of an RPM.
Fratlaw, I must say that I am not a big fan of toned IKEs, but that one is a stunner!!! A really sharp looking IKE. What did NGC give that baby?
Nice write up Lee. That 74S that I posted last week is a Micro S or a clear S as you are calling it. Very excited about the find.
I can thank Brian Vaile for that one. The night before I went on my proof IKE hunt, I asked Brian if there were any variety Proof Ikes that I should be keeping my eye out for other than the obvious DDs. He is the one that told me about that Micro S, otherwise, I would have missed it.
I'm also not big on toned Ikes, but I like when they have a pale blue after that frosty tone look... This one is really nice with the symmetrical ring-shape to the tone. :thumb:
For whatever reason, 1974 was a pretty good year to produce toned silver proof IKE's. Some have a light pond scum green while others are nicely target toned. 1972 produced some pretty good ones as well: Here's one I especially like: The coin has some very interesting die scratches on the entire bust:
I can also attest to that on the 74-S. I bought several from Apmex during their summer close-out sale in the OGP (brown boxes, no box, just the Mint slab) 40% silver Proof 1974-S. The images are quick snaps under diffuse daylight with reflections so try if you will to look through all the technical badness on these, but this is the one coin of the batch I bought and kept for myself. Despite the pics, it has reflective Proof surfaces, a pale blue target haze and color around the portrait on the obverse. The reverse is pretty much evenly frosty blue across all fields and devices. The earth is pretty well defined in strike as well. I threw in a microscope shot of the mintmark, it looked sort of like one you posted earlier in the thread. Again, sorry for the bad pics but any thoughts or insights on this coin are much appreciated if you can see anything worth noting.
