    4 weeks???

I checked my order history and it said I placed the order on 9/13 and it shipped out on 9/21 so only 8 days for me.

But I guess maybe I ordered it before most people and maybe mine got shipped out faster because they ship based on first come first serve?

That’s the only reason I can imagine why mine would ship in 8 days and others would take 4 weeks.

You're definitely right about that, the mint doesnt ship anything aside from delivering it to a distribution center that does

Yeah I think USPS does the shipping.

But I also don’t think it’s fair to blame the Mint employees if it takes a little while to get the coins over to USPS or to package and label them for USPS to come pick up. Not sure if they take it to USPS or have it picked up at the Mint.

Im just saying that I don’t think they have a huge staff of hundreds of people all devoted to shipping.

In fact I’m glad they don’t. The Mint is taxpayer funded and it would be a waste of taxpayer money to hire a bunch of extra full time employees just to get coins to customers a week or two faster.

That money could be used much better on hiring teachers or funding hospitals or fixing the roads and stuff like that.

"The US Mint is operated at no cost to the taxpayers" according to a quick google search.

I don’t know how that would even be possible.

Coins minted for circulation don’t just make themselves and I doubt collectors buy enough to pay for the Mint to mint tens of millions of coins for circulation every year.

I believe I was told the Treasury Department funds it. It’s true that collectors coins like the 2021 Morgans could probably be funded with the profits from sales of those same products alone but when we’re talking about how the Mint spends 2 cents for every penny they mint for circulation they need to be government funded somehow.

Coins for circulation are minted for distribution to the federal reserve banks and not to individuals. What you are quoting is for the money supply. What you were talking about above is for collectors and pays for itself.

Also it says $2.97 billion for 14.5 billion coins. Not sure what the total face value is for the 14.5 billion coins but if it is more than $2.97 billion then they would be turning a profit on the money supply side as well.

I only ordered the Peace dollar and haven't looked on the mint website to see the status..... Just wondering how is it that I just got an email from Mezacks outfit telling me he can ship me 2021 Morgans and Peace dollars?

It's a contracted company that does all the packaging and shipping. They were never that fast even in normal times and the really low HH limits really slows everything down and adds a lot of extra work

They often don't make the entire authorized mintage ahead of time, just part of it. The first people in line get the ones already on hand the others wait on backorder until the product can be manufactured, packaged and shipped.

It's called seigniorage, and profit on numismatic and bullion sales. They have money budgeted from the previous year. From that they pay all expenses and generate seigniorage, numismatic and bullion revenue. From this revenue they budget for the next year and turn the excess revenue over what is budgeted to the Treasury General Fund. This allows them to continue operating and paying all of their expenses without having to get appropriations of tax money.

In fiscal year 2019 the face value of the billions of coins made for circulation was $798.1 million. Cost of manufacturing them (including materials) was $479.8 million. Net profit was $318.3 million (and it would have been $102.9 Million higher if it wasn't for the losses on the cent and five cent pieces) In 2019 the mint after deducting the budget for 2020 deposited $540 million in the Treasury General Fund.

So yes they do operate at no expense to the tax payers.

For 2020 face value was $1.1685 billion, cost was $618.6 million and net profit was $549.9 million (losses for the cent and five cent reduced net profit by $101 million.)

So you’re saying they pay for their work with the money the print?

As for bullion & numismatic sales I could’ve sworn I read somewhere that the profit from things like American Silver Eagles is mandated by law to go towards paying off the national debt.

Oh Coin Shopping Network. I’ve seen him on the HSN before but I thought maybe he had a business separate from that.

They buy a great deal off Ebay, and when they buy, it looks like a market upswing to those that don’t know. You’ll see people doing little charts with Wow these are really soaring, but most times it’s the same buyer(s) with all buys headed to CSN…Whales buying, raise!!!! They do pay up!!! Lol…funny stuff.
