I'm calling this one "Wild West Wednesday" dedicated ALL Coins Minted in San Francisco . Please post yours too . Thanks in advance . Here's my 1881s MS-65 Morgan Dollar :
San Fran? The wild west? Ok. Found this S just ye"s"terday. Get it, wild west? That's right, found in circulation
Not an US coin, but this Australian florin was minted in San Francisco during WWII when Australia asked the US to make our coins. And after the war we had to pay back, so the silver content in our coins were reduced from 92.5% to 50% from 1946! There's the S mint mark above the date.
Going way back to the beginning of the San Francisco mint: When San Francisco was a muddy streeted, with rotting ships in the bay and frequent fires burning the city down and vigilante committees were law enforcement type of frontier city. The literal Barbary Coast.
Things were wild at the mint. Reverse 1 (1892-1899) in 1900 Reverse 2 (1900-1901 "thin ribbon") in 1902 Reverse 2 again in 1904 and still in 1905 You weren't supposed to be hiding old dies, SF.
Here goes, but the only way I can do this is from my old device...the one you all think is doing the multiple posts. If it happens here, sorry...have no control...but have been using a different one for the past few days . Get a load of this LARGE 'S'..!
