165123280881 102.50... With a price guide of 36.00. 50 max would be my bid. I've been stowing some of these away. I don't think it is a bad idea either. Not after seeing this...
I've seen high grade Ikes commonly sold for those prices now and the Clads are out pacing the silver.
The trifecta here : Rattler The fact that the coin was mint state and not a proof (a large majority of the silver Ikes in rattlers are proof) CAC
Yea but 50 to 75 is all I was thinking. This was probably a bit of a bidding war. But... yes the rattler and cac make a big difference
How's this for a newbie question, what's a CAC rattler? I looked the term up, but found no explanation. Thank you.
Okay, a "Rattler" is a coin slabbed in an older PCGS holder. Literally: when you shake the slab the coin rattles in the holder. Popular because they are old holders and many people feel that they could be undergraded. The CAC is a different story. Now, if that old 'rattler' has a gold CAC then CAC is saying that the con is undergraded, I believe by at least one grade.
Rattler is PCGS's first gen holder from when they started in 1986 to 1989.They give it this nickname because literally the coin moves around so much in this type of holder often.CAC Certified acceptance corporation usually is for high end eye appealing coins. But often people see CAC as a marketing plot, especially for gold stickers now those can get crazy.
Yes the good sticker means it would be a green bean in the next grade level. MS64 GOLD CAC = MS65 with a green bean.
My understanding is the green sticker means it's high end for the grade and the gold sticker means it would get a green sticker from them if it were graded one grade higher.
They've never officially stated it but that is the best educated guess at their requirements that it would at least sticker at the next grade up. Given that less than 1% of the coins they sticker get the gold they clearly require more than it to be low end at the next grade up
Yes I know a guy in California who submits. He gets about 1 gold out of 20. I've sent about a hundred in so far and not one gold. But I do get quite a few green. I just can't get MS examples. The ones I think will pass, fail. The ones I think will fail, pass lol. Now I look at the coin and if I think it will fail I buy it lol. Now we will see if my luck changes lol.
Thats a HUGE percentage if true. The majority of even the golds if you look through their population are things like Mercs in low to mid MS and classic commems that just aren't worth resubmitting. 58s are probably the second easiest if you can find those that should really be MS. I've had a couple 58s before that just really shouldn't be 58s but thats it as far as the golds
