Just kidding - That is the face value. Welcome to the forum.

All of the silver coins are pretty much melt value. The the two 1964 Kennedy's (90% silver) are worth about $13.48, the 1966 Kennedy (40% silver) is worth $2.76, and the eight pre-1965 quarters are worth about $26.97. The remaining coins are worth face value (Source - www.coinflation.com).

This was based on silver being at $18.64 a troy oz. Please note that this is the silver melt value, not the price a dealer would buy. The dealer will have a profit margin to meet and would most likely not offer you melt value.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Space4Rent... I appreciate your advice. I was hoping that the mangled 1861 penny would yield enough to retire on.... but alas a penny does not stretch that far:). I guess I'll throw them into the kitty with all the other odd coins I've found and leave them for the kids to keep for another 50 years by which timne their value should have skyrocketed to $8.02.
    ....Cheers!

    Cleaning out Junk? Re: 1861

Can you post a picture of the IHC, only. It seems to have a possible mint/variety error. I stand corrected if not.

IHC = Indian Head Cent. You got it right. :thumb:

Even in poor condition the 1861 is still worth about $20.

I'll leave it to serpent to determine if this is indeed a possible mint/variety error. Cross your fingers!

I think some people thought it may have a rim cud, but after seeing the reverse, it looks like damage.

thanks for all the info guys... considering the high value, I guess I will leave it as an inheritance for my kids :)
BTW... this is a great educational site...and very much appreciate all your support. I now know what an IHC is and approximately what a cud is.

Agree, CaptainKirk. Looks like the edge is somewhat rolled. That is what I was looking for, A Cud.
