If you really want my opinion, I think you paid too much.

It certainly is a nice cud John, but not sure about the price. Maybe @paddyman98 might know what these tend to go for.

    Arrrrrg :nailbiting:
$51.00? That is definitely not a fair price.

Too much IMHO. Those should be worth between $15.00 and $25.00 the most. If it were slabbed and attributed then that would be different.

You destroyed your wallet on this one but it is a nice cud.

Your collection. Your money. If you like it, that's all that counts.

    JCro57 Making Errors Great Again

I would say $35-$50 is fair for an AU coin, maybe $25-40 for an XF. Yet right now the error market is way up, so I can't say with certainty you paid too much. And if you really wanted it and are happy with it, then it really doesn't matter.

However, putting it in a slab for certification (which I do not at all recommend for this coin) does not make the coin itself worth more money. That is a financial burden the submitter must eat as many people - myself included - don't care you spent an additional $75 for certification/shipping. That $50 coin is still worth $50.

I only recommend slabbing a coin if it is worth a considerable amount of money and you plan on submitting it for an auction. High-value coins (e.g. 1955 doubled dies) can go higher slabbed than if raw, but not by all that much. A smart buyer knows a good coin when he/she sees it. Buy the coin, not the holder...and don't expect me to pay more for your coins because it's in plastic with a label.

check out great collections or heritage, they go off for about 90-120 a pop, cents through quarters..it is getting harder to find errors at rock bottom prices..i like this one because at least it has a date...

no worries, if i buy a coin in a casket, then so be it, i would never pay to slab a coin that i have found raw....makes no sense..
but, what i have seen of slabbed errors, i buy raw for 1/2 to 1/4 of the price realized for slabbed specimens, all things being equal

well, i am 55, so at what age does one think he pays too much?? and i would really love to know where you guys find all these errors for 1/2 to 1/4 what i have paid, they simply do not exist, and if you go to great collections, or heritage, or sullivan, the same coins i pay 40.00 for they get 100-300 or more for, especially clashes cuds and off metals...

I have.. For many years. And I have purchased from them many times. They are the known error companies that can put whatever price they want. The have an expensive overhead! So that's how they run their businesses.
It's like paying $60.00 per meal at a high class restaurant when you can get the same food at a diner for a lot less.
