That’s certainly possible but with the spacing of the sale dates there’s also time to reflect and see the market a bit. Agreed the peace was likely probably always going to be the hardest.

In all honesty though the 5 or 10 order limit I like that better. Everyone always complains about the site not being able to handle the traffic and it really gets killed when it’s a limit of 1. 5 or 10 seems like a good middle ground for something well over a 100k mintage

Has the I-hate-the-us-mint bandwagon died down enough that I can report, without being attacked, that I got my order in for the max of both issues in ~2 minutes?

I'm not sure I understand all of your comment. I feel mint to demand guarantees everyone would receive a coin. I'm a small collector so I don't think about the implications of the aftermarket.

 

When somethings limited people complain they couldnt get. When something is unlimited people complain that it's boring and another overproduced product. It's often times the same people that would be complaining either way. No matter what collectors are going to complain

 

I get what you're saying. I agree some people would complain either side. Speaking for myself, I would love to have a 2021 Peace dollar. I would never feel that the Peace dollar is boring if it was overproduced.

 

Boring might have been the wrong word, but if the mintage is unlimited then people do complain that the mint has over produced and "destroyed the aftermarket" because price fall to below issue price. The Mint can't win because no matter what they do they are wrong. We complain that the website keeps crashing, but if they upgraded it so much so that everyone got thru and was able to order on their first attempt, the coins would have sold out in seconds instead of 25 minutes. Running a little late and don't get a chance to log in till 12:00:30? Sorry all gone. Would that make you any happier?

Somehow people want the mint to make low mintage limited editions, but they want everyone who wants one to be able to get one, and for the aftermarket price to stay above issue price so they won't lose money later when they go to sell them. It ain't gonna happen.

I understand the issue, but I don't fit into your view/premise. I'm a small coin collector. I buy mint products infrequently. I have always felt that "mint to demand" is the best way to get coins to the buying public. I'm not concerned about the aftermarket or flipping coins. I have never been "shut out of buying" a coin. It could happen with the 2021 Peace dollar. So, if I'm locked out at 12:00:30... too bad for me I guess. Cheers!

 

I wonder what would happen if someone shined a light on the environmental justice aspect of the situation, hypothetically speaking of course. The argument would be something to the effect that low income or minority populations don't have an equal chance to order and buy a government mint product because some rural areas lack electricity or low income populations don't have a computer with an internet connection (don't scoff many indian reservations are in such a state). Discuss...

 

I was recently questioned as to why I call these new issues" Commems". The Mint does refer to them as "Morgan and Peace dollars", but while reading an article in the Sept. 2021 Numismatist, I find that Mitch Sanders wrote in the article "centennial connection" "Modern reproductions: In honor of the transition's centennial, the U.S. Mint is issuing 2021-dated coins with recreations of the Morgan and Peace designs. These commemoratives will have various finishes with mint marks for current mints and privy marks representing inactive mints. Should they be considered part of the original Morgan and Peace series? I don't think so because of their fundamentally different purpose, but that's just one collector's opinion!" I agree wholeheartedly with Mitch, as we both have the same opinions about these issues.

I believe they're just anniversary special issue coins in their own category. Not part of the series, not commemorative. If they must be categorized that's what they'd be. Its a growing category. In about 10 years you will have the 100th anniversary of the Washington quarter. There will probably be a 24k gold anniversary coin for that.

I've checked my VISA.. no charges, then I checked the orders and no charges, so I assume that they have not made a shipping label yet
It was mentioned that there is a question about the 2021 Morgans and Peace dollars' names. In 2016, the Mint sold gold "Winged Liberty Head" or "Mercury" Gold Dimes, "Standing Liberty" Gold Quarters, and "Liberty Walking" Half Dollars. Were they labeled "Comems"? I was fortunate to buy one of each of those. By the time the Morgan (P) (CC) and Peace Dollars were on sale, I had other things in the way, but when the second set of Morgan Dollars (D) (S), I purchased them (in name only since they are still in Backorder. I had so much trouble getting the Morgan (D) & (S), I chose to ignore the Morgan (P) and the Peace "Commems". I just don't need that kind of pressure at 73. I very seldom buy anything from TV shows or ebay. I have bought a few coins from Mount Vernon to plug some holes.

 

So, I called the mint a couple-few weeks ago about another matter, and asked about an anticipated shipment date. The customer service rep gave me a drop-dead date of Oct. 15 for all Morgan’s and the Peace, and re-stated that date several times during our conversation. Of course, I’ve often heard one thing from one rep and something else from another, so I called back again and I was provided the same, definitive drop date (again, several times) of Oct 15th.

I called earlier this week (not-so-interestingly, about the same unresolved ‘other’ matter from a couple-few weeks ago)…. and the customer service rep said she’d never heard of that previous Oct 15th drop date. She also asked her supervisor/manager if there was any info about the drop date, and they were unable to confirm any date……… just that delivery would “START” [emphasis given] sometime in October. Yet, this time I got the ‘we’re experiencing delays in shipping’.

I’d be curious to know if anyone has any Morgan’s or Peace dollars ‘processing’ or ‘shipped’.

on a side (but related) noted. I was inquiring into my order for 2021 AE, which was back ordered; then, I received an email a couple-few weeks ago telling me they had a problem processing my order- even as my bank account was being charged. Now, my bank account is cleared of that 2021 AE charge (as in gone, remove, no charge) but my order is still presumably ‘processing’ on the mint website. And the rep stated that those emails were erroneously delivered to a lot of customers….. though, she was unable to comment on the status of my order or shipment.
