Is anyone going to collect the National Park Quarters. I am but I wish the Mint would cease with these long series programs.

I'll collect them from the annual mint/proof sets and whatever circulation coins I can eventually find to fill a Whitman folder. No special effort will be involved.
I would like to see TR as the obverse portrait.

There's a possibility that I will, at least in proof sets. I've greatly enjoyed looking for and collecting the state quarter proofs in deep cameo, but whether or not I do the same with the AtB quarters depends on whether or not I like how they look.

NO. Absolutely NO. I've had it with the Mints coins that will never be worth more than face value. Possibly less.

I hope to get the silver proof quarters in NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo to match my state quarter collection. I haven't made my mind up on the 5oz coins, yet. I've seen some of the 5oz Australian coins and they look pretty nice.

I see alot of mints set,s just sitting on the shelf at my local coin shop
Only the very rare are going to be worth anything, Most will be gotten
    For face or below!!

  8. My son and I will likely collect the both the business strikes and the proofs. If you have seen my posts in the Bullion Investing forum, you will also know that I am strongly considering the 5 ounce silver "hockey pucks" as green18 calls them. TC

I will get them from the silver proof sets. The 5 oz coins I will probably not collect though, since the mint will probably overcharge for them.

Have any designs been officially picked yet?

I'm on the Mint subscription list for the rolls as they come out. Have no plans to open them. Will just sock them away like I do with everything else. Hate paying a premium and $4.95 S&H charges but at least they'll be MINT WRAPPED. Maybe someone will discover errors down the road that one of my rolls might hold!)

The most recent news I can find concerning the designs comes from the beginning of October, so further decisions have probably been made, but this page has a slide show of potential options. Some look quite nice, but some are rather, shall we say, lackluster.

Take a look here if you haven't seen them already: http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/2010-america-beautiful-quarter-design.html

You could say that (never worth more than face value) about a whole lot of cents (and nickels, and dimes) that have been minted in the last few decades, too . . . . but that doesn't stop me

I still say it's a shame they aren't taking this opportunity to honor the founder of the National Park system...President Theodore Roosevelt.

    ...very unfortunate.

I'll put together a set. Probably PDSS. With PD coming from Mint sets and SS from Proof sets. I'm on the hedge on the hockey pucks. I think that I'd really like them. So it will depend on price and my job situation.

Definitely will collect them with my son - somewhat educational and allows for "The thrill of the hunt". Although I collect other series, the state & parks quarters offer 56 different reverses each, much nicer than series where all the coins are the same, except for the date.

Of course if you then open the rolls and DON'T find the error, you have also thrown away any premium the "Mint wrapped" roll had.

I really don't care about the new quarters and I don't do much with any of the moderns but I just might collect the hockey pucks.

The Mint is marketing them through the same distributors as the bullion ASE's. There is a fair chance they will also be treated as just a bullion coin in which case the Mint will be selling them to the distributors for about $7.50 over spot. So figure retail around $15 or so over spot.

Yeah, and spot is through the roof right now. Good chance the first few bought at high spot will plumet in value when/if silver comes back down to earth as the economy recovers.

My thought's are that a true coin collector obtains coins only for the sake of collecting every coin imaginable.

A true investor obtains coins only in the belief that their price will esculate.

Although I do consider potential appreciate, I also collect to collect. As for modern issues ever being worth anything, I've made more off of mordern mint products than I've ever made off the "old stuff".

As do most of us, no?

So what if 2010 quarters looked just like the ones from before the state series . . . I would still collect one to put in my album. Do I think it will ever be worth much more than .25? Hardly.

I mean, I plan on having a pair of BU 2010 Lincoln cents to put in my album at some point. Do I think that will ever be worth much more than face value? No, not at all.
