This quarter has me puzzled...has it just been beaten half to death or what? It weighs 5 grams, as opposed to my other quarters that weigh 6 grams. The pics of the rim aren't the greatest but hopefully you'll be able to see how thin it is.
Damage it probably got stuck in a washing machine/dryer after falling out of some sorts at some point in its life.
Agree that it's damaged. Acid etched, sand blasted, abraded, who knows? Don't worry about what caused the damage, just know that it didn't leave the mint in that condition FYI, the weight of a quarter 5.67 gms +/- 0.227. Using a scale that weighs to the nearest gram doesn't work very well for numismatics. You may want to consider getting a scale that weighs to 0.01 grams. I think there are cheap ones on eBay and amazon
Yeah, I figured that...I used a food scale and I knew immediately that it wasn't sensitive enough for coins. I'm just gonna have to spring for a new scale. Thanks!
I bought a new scale and my 1972 weighed 5.36 grams, as opposed to one of my other quarters, which weighed 5.70 grams.
