So when you go to the bank what do you want to ask for to get the best value for your buck?

I would say to ask for rolled half dollars and search for silver. Finding silver in circulation is the only way to "make money" out of circulation and half dollars seem to have the highest concentration of silver remaining in circulation...although it is being heavily searched through.

I'd ask for silver dollars. That don't mean your going to get them.

    Sounds good

Yep. If there is a better plan to scrounge from what can be simply found please share it.

Dang. Every time DMD's posts I think of Painless in M*A*S*H*!

You need to get rolled coins in bulk and search them for silver. Any dime, quarter, or half 1964 or older is 90% silver and any half 1965-1970 is 40% silver. You won't just be able to walk into a bank and ask for "silver" and expect to walk out making a profit.

I agree that half dollars is the best choice.

They come 20 coins to a roll, so $10 per roll. When I search them, I buy a box or two at $500 per box, but it's hard for some people to come by that much. There's nothing wrong with searching a roll at a time. You could get lucky, or you could get nothing.

You're looking for any half dollar minted in 1970 or earlier. The ones dated 1965-1970 are 40% silver, and anything dated 1964 and earlier will be 90% silver.

Sometimes you get $10 rolls of halves. It seems the last three years or so all they have at my bank are half rolls. Not that it makes any difference really.

I go for the cents over silver strictly because of face value. If you find a silver dime you got about 13x face value. Now lets say you find and RPM on cent and it has a max value of 50 cents, thats 50x face value. Heck, even if you find a Morgan in a roll of Ike's, more than likely its only 15-20x face value. Everyone searches differently this is just my opinion...

Ok so I don't know what you guys are talking about. You go to the Bank and buy rolls of coins for the off chance of getting a collectable? What are the odds?

I don't know what the actual odds are, but you might find this thread interesting, it is what brought me to this site.

    Odds are Good

Odds are Very Good. 100% if you are looking for something you understand and can appreciate.

No need to seek approval from others if you find what you are looking for.

Every coin is collectible to someone. What it is made out of, when, how, why.....stuff like that.
