Found this nickel yesterday and noticed the edge was kinda thick....I weighed it and checked it out with my tool for it's thickness...I couldn't find a same year nickel so just grabbed one, a 1964, and compared them. Here's what I found.
Found one like this before. I put it back into circulation. Thought maybe someone sanded the edge to make it thicker.
What does it weigh? Another thought is instead of a thing planchet it might have been a thicker than normal one. Looks like nice toning.
From these most recent photos, you can see the edge of the coin higher than normal which tells me it was spooned, so PMD.
yes firmly agree, letters almost UNDER the rim proving spooning PMD was in play. thanks for showing it.
