Guy's.. check out this note, the suffix letter "A" on the upper right Serial Number appears to be a different font type or at least it appears wider and larger than the lower left suffix letter. It is also bolder in color that the other serial numbers...I just saw and bought this note a few min ago... If anyone has any info on why this would have occured with this upper suffix letter only, I would be interested in knowing. Thanks.. RickieB
The top border looks mis aligned and the individual numbers lower left serial number are not lined up. Pretty cool note and I'm assuming you didn't pay that much more than face. Also, how was the note described in the auction.
I know aout the borders being askew, thats not the question. It is a Series 1928B and no you cant buy these for just pittance over face...I did not buy it for any other reason than this suffix letter. it is a CHCU note (Raw) and I will go as far to say a 64 due to the uneven borders...the striking part off this note is the upper suffix letter. Thats what I am curious about. RickieB
Something does not look right in the left serial number also in that the digits are not aligned well. I will be the first to confess that I know next to nothing about this series. My guess, for what it is worth, is either (1) overinking on the letter A or (2) the note is not genuine.
Lettow: The rolled SN's are pretty common for this Series as the number wheels were not always aligned very well. You will see this quite often with the older Series. The note is Genuine...comes from The Paper Money Institute.. I want to say that the original "A" in the number wheel was damaged and hench replaced with a new letter...but I have no proff of that whatsoever. The replaced "A" could have been from a stockpile of letter fonts. RickieB
I think it's just heavy inking on the A...this kind of variation isn't too unusual, though this is a rather extreme example. There *are* actual font varieties on the serials in this series, but this isn't one of those--both of these A's are the "early" font typically found on Tate-Mellon notes.
