I don’t receive enough mail for it to bother me and most of what I do receive is called junk mail.

  4. If I read the USPS announcement correctly, the slowdown does not affect first-class parcels, only first-class letters.

I'm not sure I've felt that particular effect (slowdown) but the increase in prices and change of rules (First Class used to be 16 oz or less; now it's 13 oz) really got me with my last auction, which was posted with Shipping Terms before I found out about the new changes. I still honored the posted terms...and I'm losing money on shipping this auction instead of having the few extra cents pay for shipping supplies.

For example, a 14 oz package that used to qualify for First Class (cost $4 and some change) now no longer qualifies for FC and must be sent Priority. Small Flat Rate Box is now around $10, and the Priority Envelope was actually a cheaper option at $8.70. Still lost $3.70 per package.

On a side note, the bubble mailers I get for shipping have also doubled in price.

Yes, I will take a loss on this particular auction, but will have to adjust shipping charges for future auctions/sales, which means people will probably adjust their bids/offers accordingly.

Everyone ends up losing except the people making the rules.

All I have to say is , check where your item is coming from . I ordered from Amazon this week but failed to check the place where it's coming from.
It's coming from China :arghh:. and expected delivery is Oct.29th- Nov. 29th . Why such a span ? Is because they aren't sure exactly when ? This bothers and frustrates me . :banghead:
Anyone else run into this problem with Amazon ?

I think back to the days when we would send an order in the US Mail and wait at least 10 days for a response. The days of instant gratification are ending. I've got patience I haven't used yet.

And a person (e.g. eBay) wanders why I won't sell an item (e.g. a mint or proof set) for less than I paid for it and offer free shipping.

The service standard change is a result of transportation changes. The USPS is moving away from Shipping mail by plane, back to trucking it. Seems during the height of Covid... air transport of mail became a problem.....An expensive problem....So they are moving back to shipping by truck, which takes longer. - Edited -

So who is "making these rules"? Sorry, but its inflation. Its everywhere. Its not that the bubble mailer people are evil, they are seeing massive price increases. Conagra just said they expect their inflation to make food to go up another 11% next year. Government spending and increased minimum wages is fueling massive inflation right now. I would expect price increases to speed up not slow down like what the Fed believes. Everyone raises my prices, I have to raise what I charge. This feeds into people seeing increased prices and demand higher wages, which further increases costs. That is the inflationary spiral. No one is to blame except for those printing WAY too much money and causing it. Now they want to "cut down" their $4.5 Trillion of new spending to "only" $3.5 Trillion. Hold onto your wallet, it has just begun.

    A couple of positives:

A week or so ago I placed an order for a gift around noon on Amazon. One part of the order arrived that same night around 10pm and the other part of the order was delivered around 5AM the next morning. I never had that happen before!

Also, recently I have stopped schlepping packages to the post office. I don't even take my flat rate priority envelopes to the mail box any longer. I just ask USPS to pick up my priority mail and packages from my place. You don't even have to open your door. I love it. They don't charge anything more for that......yet?

But, i have lost coins and cooked lamb my dying mother requested a couple of weeks before she closed her eyes in the USPS stream. And, i have had critical business priority mail held up for weeks without being able to track it by the tracking number I paid for. So, there is that.

I've had these effects since August last year, they really can't get much slower than they already are for me, if it gets there at all......

there are other issues going on with USPS also. Yesterday I had a package I mailed to Australia returned marked as "mail service suspended"

"USPS can no longer accept or deliver international mail to several countries due to COVID-19 service impacts."
