1934 Peace Dollar

Yesterday I did the key date and today I’m doing the semi-key date. Both are in Fine condition. Nice examples of circulated coins with tough dates. This date is the third lowest in mintage for the Peace Dollars with the exception of the 1922 high relief, which is not necessary to complete the series.

Only 954,057 were minted. The 1927 had a lower mintage but it was not issued during the depression years. It’s not beat up but it does have a spot of dirt on the obverse.

Looks beat-up enough to me, esp the obv...but still a decent example for sure...better than many. On the "1922 high relief" mintage...heck, I never see it listed...like, super-rare...sure you don't mean the 1921 H-R...???

I like coins that have worked for a living, those that have been there and done that.

 

All 1921 Peace Dollars are high relief but the 1922 was first a high relief. Early in the year the design was changed to the low relief. Just over 20,000 were minted I believe so it’s not considered a coin necessary to complete the series.

 

The question is, is it dirt that can be easily removed, or it is silver corrosion which is a problem. I can't tell by the photo.

I have a complete set of them in MS-64 except for a 1927-S. Well, the 1928 I have is a 65. Been looking for years and can’t find one I like at the price I like. One day I will as I keep looking.

 

I don't have graded coins but this one is very nice.

 

Thanks...I found a listing for their mintage in Red Book...went from memory and couldn't recall it.

 

The 22 high relief business strikes are not considered a coin necessary to complete the set because all of them were melted save one known specimen.

 

You beat me to it...that coin is still for sale too over at MA-Shops. like most 21/22 special pieces they are priced out of range of the common collector.
1922 has a High, Mid and Low relief versions and most are for sale too online asking a fortune.
Still waiting for one of the 20 struck 1928-D peace dollars to somehow survived and show up one day in the marketplace for everyone to see.

It looks that good in hand. I am the last person in the world to declare a grade. I use the BU, UNC, EF, and so on. Comments are very welcome regarding grades of any of my coins.
