Hello: Need some help... I was given this little gem, but did not get an attribute. My eyes are a bit of a mess right now (being worked on), and I am honestly having a very difficult time seeing the coin in detail. I appreciate your help! Thoughts?
Looks like Arcadius from Alexandria to me buddy. edit:Arcadius. A.D. 383-408. AE mint. Struck AD 392-395 Obv: D N ARCADI-VS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Arcadius right Rev: GLORIA ROMANORVM., Arcadius in military garb standing facing, head right, holding labarum and globe
it takes the anxiety out of pulling my 4th century bunch with this group of peeps with knowledge and kindness
I have an Arcadius GLORIA ROMANORVM but the reverse is different. Arcadius AE3 384-387 AD Obverse: DN ARCADI-VS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right Reverse: GLORIA ROMANORVM, emperor walking right, holding labarum and dragging a captive behind him. Mintmark BSISC.
You have the rare revival of the GLORIA ROMANORVM type from the mid 360s onward that was done by Valentinian II around mid 380s possibly to comemorate his father and uncle and likely to state his legitimacy as son of the good emperor Valentinian I.
Arcadius...barely: Honorius. 393-423 AD. Æ 15mm. Alexandria mint. Struck 406-408 AD. Obv: Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right; star behind. Rev: Arcadius, Honorius and Theodosius standing facing, each holding a spear; ALEA in exergue. RIC X, Arcadius 157
Thank you everyone for your kind help! This eye issue has been a frustration, which has made reading difficult. If it is on a screen, I am ok. But my coins are getting tough to focus.
I hope your eyesight is on the mend soon. My mom had been having eye trouble for some time (already had surgery for cataracts back in the 2000's) but recently had successful laser surgery at the Stanford eye center to correct other problems which had emerged. She is now around 20/20 (at age 80), so hopefully the prognosis is good for you. New technologies and techniques offer a lot of hope it seems.
..heck Brian..this ain't no quiz..its turned into a gameshow . here's my 'spur' Ae3 and 2 of the lad..the last is the smallest coin in my collection..you havin' I trouble ol' pal?...
LOL, actually, yeah, my eyes are giving me the doubling, etc. issues. Nervous, Tense, Tired? Not really... fighting cataracts! Man, they came on fast, and hard to see small details... looks like the Yellow Signs above!
