Saw this at the nh coin and currency expo today. It wasn't for sale but the guy let me take pictures of it. A very cool item, I would like to own one of these someday.
I've seen that at a coin show before, made me desire the bag and it's previous contents. Can you imagine owning an original mint bag of CC dollars?
I know they are of no interest to USA collectors, but I own several Scottish bank bags from the early 20th century - my fave held halfcrowns. I still use them occasionally for coin sifting.
There were over 2,000 such bags in the GSA holding back in 1964. Very early in the discussions about the sale of the CC dollars there was a mention about selling the bags as well. Then everything went quiet about the bags and they were never mentioned again. I have no idea what they finally did with them, but as far as I know they never sold them. At least not publicly.
If that were the case I would expect them to show up in the marketplace more often. I've only seen two or three over the years. I suspect they did get stupid and just trashed them. Probably thought "Who would want to buy an old canvas bag?"
