Time for more coins to get lost in the mail. Mail delivery for many Americans will slow starting on Friday, part of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's blueprint for overhauling the U.S. Postal Service in order to slash costs. But critics say the slower delivery standards could cause problems such as late bill delivery while more broadly undermining the public's faith in the USPS. Almost 4 of 10 pieces of first-class mail will see slower delivery, according to Paul Steidler, a senior fellow at the Lexington Institute and an expert on the postal service. That "means mail delivery will be slower than in the 1970s," he said, calling DeJoy's plan "disastrous." Starting tomorrow, the postal service's current three-day delivery standard for first-class mail — letters, bills, tax documents, and the like — will drop to delivery anywhere within the U.S. within five days. In other words, Americans should now expect that letters and other mail could take up to five days to reach their destinations and vice versa. About time they started to try to stop losing money. The time makes no difference, no bill or tax gives you 24-48 hours to pay it which is what the difference is. Now hopefully when the Amazon/UPS/Fedex contracts come back up they dont make such awful deals again
It's so they can keep prices lower for customers lol, I read somewhere not long ago that they were wanting another increase of 5 cents too? If they really want to cut cost why not end Saturday delivery? I mean it's probably all or mostly overtime being paid out? also all that junk mail with the discounted rates, most of it ends right in the land fills because it's literally trash. for me AARP is the biggest offender of junk mail i receive, also the weekly Citi offers that i have received for many years, you would think since i have never responded to any of these offers means i am not interested, i started getting offers from AARP about 15 years ago, sometimes it's every other day, but between the wife and i it's pretty much daily one of gets something from them, it's annoying and opting out has not worked, i even started to write return to sender and that doesn't help either? it's ridiculous! It's been a tough year for the PO too, between mail in ballots and Last Christmas seasons disaster was proof they really can't handle the current shopping habits being shipped via USPS, future funding of Pensions is not helping to keep their cost down either, if they change their mind and decide to force a covid mandate on PO workers it could be game over for the PO! most young people these days seem to lack the pride and dedication that most Mail Carriers over the years are known for!
100 percent true. The volume of packages has risen so quickly thanks to online shopping habits which were even further boosted by everyone being locked in at home. Unsustainable - but what's new?

That pays their bills. More of that would be a good thing for them. They get killed on the drop shipping and package deals they have. They do the work and the expensive part of the work for pennies on the dollar basically. Realistically some volume discount should happen but the deals they currently have are atrocious for them. You mean actually funding what they’re supposed to? There’s no future funding that’s a myth that was pushed by the executives years ago to cover their incompetence.
our Mail Lady who is actually a private contractor (rural) was busier then a one armed paper hanger and a one legged man in a butt kicking contest combined! because of space she was loading up and doing half the route, returning to the PO and reloading for the other half of the route. you would have thought with all the extra business last year they would have finally gotten their balance sheet in the black?
In other positions, a policy change with "unintended consequences" that enrage your customers is known as "a major foul-up", and a career-limiting move. Of course, once you reach a certain level, failures aren't really failures any more. "Blame deflection opportunities", perhaps?
Well, DeJoy isn't accountable to any of us little people, only the big shots! It's a government affiliate... I guess it's just to be expected
They need to stop referring to it as a "service". There are a number of services that support the country that are not scrutinized based on a balance sheet because they keep us safe and running smoothly. If the U.S.P.S. loses money to perform that vital service, so be it.
5 days is nothing compared to the waits I've been having at the processing center in WI. took two weeks to leave that building.
Since the mail will be slower getting to you many a business will cut the time for you to make your payment, which if late results in a high rate late charge. There are not responsible for late mail delivery. Hence more people will stop using the post office and start paying on line.
Imagine a world where the rest of the government was in great financial shape and could chip in to help out the postal service in times like these. Maybe even speed up service. I know, just a pipe dream. Would make for an interesting film maybe.
