http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180457020314&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT What (in your professional opinion) grade/value/condition is this coin? Comments welcomed! Thanks!
whithout a slab from one of the major TPGs I wouldn't bid on this for anything. There are so many of these fakes coming out of China that I would be highly suspect of any early dollar.
The auction does point out the rim nick, and I asked the question to the seller about the authenticity and the response was: "has been authenticated by Rust Rare Coin." What do you think?
Oh.. Well I am not an expert at all in these coins... As a buyer.. on a budget.. I know that some deals are great on-line but.. I like the Local shop on higher priced coins.. Overall I Like the coin.. It looks better then most I see but like I said. No expert..
I don't see anything from the photo that says fake. It's obviously been cleaned/dipped. I would grade it VG details and say that you did pretty good. Nice coin. Have it checked as soon as it arrives.
Tyler, A company like PCGS or NGC is a third-party grader; they take coins submitted to them by customers and assign grades to them and put them in special holders, should they meet certain requirements. Some TPGs are more reputable than others (namely the two I listed above) and a coin in their holders can drive a bit of a premium.
Please don't take this wrong Tyler but you may want to educate yourself about coins and ebay a little more before you get yourself burned.
But don't you have to be in a club to get a coin graded? What about ANACS? You don't have to be in a club or membership to get a coin graded from them. Your thoughts?
Yes Tyler you did. Maybe you should ask before you buy LOL! Personally I'm not a pro just a hobbiest learning.
I have never submitted.. YET.. But ANACS is assessable. PCGS has Higher Value Due to Grading Standards and Registry. NGC Is Near the Same without the Registry and ANACS Will Grade For Anyone. As Far as I know..
I'm not too familiar with ANACS, but with PCGS and NGC, submitting requires that you be a paid member of their collectors' clubs (though with certain memberships, you can get free grading vouchers which can help make up the cost of the membership, assuming the coins are worth enough), but having an ANA membership enables one to submit to NGC for grading without being a part of their club, which is quite handy for some.
