I got cheated on CT buy/sell

That said, I only buy (here) from folks I know. Just borrowing trouble if ya don't know your seller.

I have brought only 3 times from Cointalk's sales area. In all the cases, the sellers were regulars. In all the cases, I never brought anything for more money that I was willing to lose if things went wrong. In one case, I even brought something on layaway, and we did well. In another case I purchased something from someone I wouldn't ordinarly trust enough to buy so much as lemonade. But they all went well.

I always keep in mind that I can lose my money if I buy coins there, and there is no recourse. But I would buy again from there, if I see something interesting.

In addition to trusting the seller, there is also a matter of things just get lost in the mail. That hasn't happened to me, but it can, to no fault of the seller.

 

I was "stiffed" for almost a grand by an infamous selling character. To make matters worse, management closed access to my correspondence with the seller, making it virtually impossible to prosecute without a subpoena complicated process.

The closing of correspondence access just emboldened the seller to continue his efforts on other sites.

I recommend that users of this site heed warnings posted by management, as they are part of the problem, in limiting victim access to crucial litigation documents.

The management makes it point blank clear that they are not responsible for anything that happens in the sales area and they endorse no one. They aren't running ebay. The alternative is to just remove the section.

 

I do wish they would enforce the rule that puts auction anouncements in one section and sales classified in the other

 

I had one great experience as a seller here. No issues, no problems, it was perfect. I have meant to sell more, but that thing called ambition seems to have moved elsewhere for the moment. Hopefully it will return soon.

I beg to differ with you as I'm talking about the CoinTalk sales site, not eBay, where site management has control of communications retention.

I explained where one having minimal knowledge of legal procedure would understand that if a platform deletes/closes access to incriminating evidence, a court action may be required for recovery.

The alternative to deletion/closure of past communications, is suspension of further thread discussion.

I believe site management does extraordinary effort, and any further expansion/explanation would be futile, so please just trust me.

 

Honestly not sure what that means.

I think stuff like this could be avoided if there was a system that penalized untrustworthy sellers.

Hopefully that person got the ban hammer!

I've bought and sold here a few times over the years. Has always worked out great. I've gotten some of my favorite coins from the selling forum here.

The vast majority are legit but that doesn't mean 100% are. There are many people I don't know personally on here but know their screen names and have seen them engaged for many years on this forum. I would trust most of them. If it's somebody I've never seen post here or rarely seen before I would not. No matter how great of a deal.

 

I have never ever had a problem on CT.. I think I take the risk when purchasing, because I send a U.S. Postal Money Order to the Seller, he or she cashes it.... get cash.... then send coins... but only here I do this....allot times its the same Seller too.

 

Several CT Trades have worked out well for me (and I am sure for my trading partners) and I have several small purchases (a shady guy who calls himself Lord) but each time, I do it with my own understanding that I take all of the risk and I give thanks each time my new coins arrive.

 

It wasn't me, I promise . . .

I've never bought anything on CT, but would trust a known member here before an unknown on eBay.
