In another thread, we were talking about the nonavailability of certain years rolls or bags unsearched, and I mentioned I was going to search a bag of 1970-S cents for an older collector. Well, I picked it up yesterday and here are a couple of photos. I will only be doing a little at a time. A preliminary check seems to indicate probably all are large dates :(

I just took out about 40 randomly, and they were all normal. Some nice BU, others had spots, somewhat typical I guess. I told the guy this would be slow going. He didn't seem to care, said they were on the bottom of the vault since the issue date. He has several bags between 68 and 72, all S.

In addition to small dates you should look for S/S RPMs I have found a few in 1970 Mint Sets. They are not as valuable as the small dates, but they fetched me about $15.00 ea for the ones I sold on Ebay

I think this a rather neat find! I usually set aside the San Frans I still find in circulation, which seem to be fewer and fewer as time goes on.

I agree with you. The worst is that I would find little other than a roll or 2 of higher grade coins. I can always hope for better, but it won't spoil my fun. Hopefully I can find enough to have him want me to go through the other bags. :) I wish I had done this also, but there was much else to do.

    Ahh no 69.
If he had a bag of 69-s I would jump on them...

Not too sure what "higher grade" coins you are looking for, but PCGS MS66's go for $100 to $225. Now, 66's are nice coins, but I would have thought it would take at least a 67 to top $100.

That is higher than what I thought a 66R would go for. Anyway, I can only go through a roll or 2 a night and keep my shoulders and sanity in line. I have gone through the variety books for this year and hope they stick in my mind. Wish I could have several of you lincoln guys and gals sitting here also, we could make an evening of it :)

I'd help you, but I had to give up searching more than a roll or so at a time, dang arthritis in my neck. I used to love checking wheat bags. (I wonder if that caused the arthritis) lol. Nope, I just fell out of too many trees.

that is really cool that they are all original and have been sitting in the vault for more than 40 years :)
