    Good thing they were gold. Bronze and silver don't do so well in seawater.

    Not in the open water like that. Silver corrodes a little, but copper disintegrates. However, there has been coins found protected in pots that survived well, even copper.

    Then there is the Black Sea, where even olive oil and wine can be preserved for three thousand years perfectly....
